Have you met a hockey player? They are on par with wrestlers for insanity.
No doubt, and bet you Boston team doctors wouldn’t have let him play. Instead a rival coach and medical staff make the decision for you.

I think it's more like the teams had little to no say in this and they "agreed" to let their players go because Bettman told them to. If the teams had their say the NHL All Star Game would resemble what the NBA and NFL do, and none of their players would participate in the Olympics (ESPECIALLY when the Olympics cut weeks out of the middle of the NHL regular season).
No, players were not required to play in the 4 Nations Face-Off. In fact, the NHL is paying players an “appearance fee” to reward them to play.
Alex Pietrangelo still opted out for Canada.

They don’t take part in the Olympics anymore. This is why this is such a big deal to the players.

And Bettman works for the owners. Not the other way around. He can’t tell them to do anything. Players and owners have to vote to change things, that’s why they have a CBA.

You sure about that? I’d bet they let him play if the stakes were high enough. In fact I remember when they let Patrice Bergeron play with a punctured lung, broken rib, torn cartilage and dislocated shoulder in 2013 against the Blackhawks in the SCF.

The stakes in this case were meaningless for Boston, so pretty sure.

You don't feel like cheering the US right now, all good. I can get that and no one has to participate in support them.

Actively cheering against the national team, that I'm probably not going to find myself on board with in this situation.

What if you just always cheered against Russia so no philosophical change?

Not really the point. It just shows the organizations care, until they don’t.
I agree they only care as much as it impacts them and their roi. They don’t get much of an roi in a situation like Mcavoys. We’ll have to see if they care enough to not want to risk injuries going forward, at this point in the season.

The Canadian National anthem sounded like a lady that forgot the next words so she prolonged what she was saying to give her time to remember
