It should be another fun year for CJLs squad in Ames this year. We will definitely feel the losses of Cande and Popovic, but it's great to have Jaden & Eleanor back for the season. LOTS of new faces to compete for time on the court, and I expect at least 1 freshman to have a big impact this year. We also welcome Marc Neef as an Assistant Coach as Coach Fiona has moved onto WVU

Graduating Seniors
2 Taylor Baranski DS/L 5' 6" Sr. Channahon, Ill. / Minooka Community
13 Marija Popovic DS/L 5' 5" Sr. Belgrade, Serbia / Sports Grammar School Belgrade
17 Candelaria Herrera MB 6' 1" Sr. San Juan, Argentina / null
5 Brooke Andersen OH 6' 0" Sr. Waukesha, Wis. / Lake Country Lutheran
15 Avery Rhodes MB 6' 2" R-Sr. Waco, Texas / Midway
Transfers
18 Julia Capone DS/L 5' 6" So. Mississauga, Ontario / St. Marcellinus Secondary School Transferred to Mount Royal University (Canada)
19 Micah Hall DS/L 5' 2" So. San Antonio, Texas / Johnson Transferred to University of New Orleans

We return a solid amount of production from last year and have our setter, RS, and 1 OH locked down, but it will be so fun to see position battles, especially for Libero, MB, and that last OH spot.

Returners

18 Kelsey Perry MB 6' 4" Fr. Frisco, Texas / Reedy
19 Faith DeRonde OH/RS 5' 11" Fr. Oskaloosa, Iowa / Oskaloosa

We were picked 3rd in the Big 12, 1 point ahead of Kansas who is ranked 23rd in the AVCA preseason poll. Texas picked to win the league for the 12th straight year (shocker :))

Preseason Predictions:
Maya Duckworth will start from Day 1 and be in the running for Big 12 Freshman of the Year
Finish 2nd in the Big 12 taking down Baylor at home
Make it past the first round of the NCAA Tournament

I hate that nearly every Saturday or Sunday game is on the road. Any insights why weekend home games are on Fridays? I was hoping to take my girls club team to an ISU match but they have school practice on Fridays.

I get that, but they play at other schools on Saturdays. Maybe it's a case where other schools never have a football game on those dates, or maybe other school's volleyball arenas aren't close to the football fields?

Just wanted to note that Duckworth, Newsome, & Holthaus we’re all chosen in the 9th round of the VolleyTalk NCAA VB fantasy league. Overall 113, 119, and 125 picks.
I get that Duckworth had a very productive HS career but based on the pic in this tweet, she is perhaps shorter than her listed height of 5-8 and will be challenged to score/kill at the high major D1 level. Her comp is perhaps Aliyah Carter from KSU and Carter is listed at 5-10. But if she ends up as good as Carter, that would obviously be great.

Brandt sister to Jenna? Been out of watching last few yrs, sounds like a good yr to try and get in. No games close to me but hoping to go see a Badger game or 2 here in person.

Up to #2 in the Big 12 standings after a 3 game win streak

Also, they list RPI futures on VolleyTalk and we’ve moved up from 71 to 47 this week. Top 20 SOS. Still a good chance to make the NCAAs if we can hold serve at home and steal a couple more on the road.

47. (71) Iowa State - Big 12 (17-13) - .5858 - 20
