12/17 Official Coaching Search Thread

Everybody knows it's Herbie Heacock.

No, we will not hire him due to his name. We have a Herky across state and we do not need a herbie and/or Heacock. No. Put it in the category of No. There would be too much verbal abuse if we did not win. Remember Licklighter, etc.

Cuz Mac and Chizik ever pulled tons of 4/5* talent from TX & FL.

Right now I'd be happy with anyone not named Farley
Nope they never did, but last year we had commits from 8 different states... thats more connections than california being you ONLY recruiting grounds. the 2006 and 2007 classes at Fresno had a combined 2 players not from california... thats scary to me. no connections at all outside that state.

Edit: since 2003 we have had like 6 commits from CA... 4 i have never heard of, 1 is good (Collin Franklin) and 1 didnt work out great (JJ Bass). in 2002 we had like 8 from CA and none of them amounted to anything or never made it to campus. We dont recruit CA good at all

Thats what assistants are for.

I love the Tommy Boy quote, but I think it was lost in the stress of the day...

If I live in Cali why would need to recruit TX, FL. Thats why if you a coach you hire asst. coaches who know certain area's. The guy can coach.

I agree, but the scary part is that he has NEVER had a college job east of the Rockies... So he has NEVER recruited Florida or Texas...

just got on the board to check out rumors concerning the coaching search, and saw Pat Hill's name in the mix. Currently living in the Fresno area and following the team closely for the last four years, I have mixed feeelings with this news. I actually have met Pat Hill on a couple of occasions and usually we ended up discussing my loyalties to ISU. Based on my experience he is a great guy, very loyal, very ethical, and VERY stubborn. He has worn out his welcome here in Fresno, and most everyone is calling for his head. In fact many of my friends here where kidding me that ISU could do FSU a favor and hire Hill. Much of this has come due to the fact that he is extremely stubborn and will not change his play calling, personal decisions, offense scheme, defense scheme, etc. The fans have watched Boise, Nevada, etc change their offense based on personel in order to put a more effective and desirable product on the field. He has not won an outright WAC conference championship. In his defense he has lost 3-4? OC in the last 5 years to bigger schools (Cal, North Carolina, Alabama) and that has hurt from a continuity standpoint. They left for greener pastures as an assistant coach at FSU does not make very much. One thing I think Hill would like is the bigger budget that comes with a BCS conferance school. We could do worse than Hill, but bottom line is I am not extremely excited about him as a hire either. Ironically, I am moving back to Iowa in one week and if we do hire him I continue to get a dose of Hill's brand of football.
