The Des Moines splash pools and spray grounds are back open. You can always go to one of them.

    ***College Towns to Visit***

Anybody else been to Durham? The town is kind of rough but the Duke campus is really cool. We were walking around and found Cameron Indoor, doors wide open and nobody there so we went in and got some pictures on the court. This was in July.

I wouldn't think twice about it, unnecessary with the rain we've been getting.

RECRUITING: Jett Thomalla (4-star QB 2026 commit) flips to Alabama

Recruiting talk is pointless anymore until they make it to campus. Even after that it's a dart throw whether they will even make it a year.

Employees are clueless. I ordered a pizza online once. The Doordash guy shows up with nothing close to what we ordered. So I call them and they said they didn't have the ingredients to make our pizza. I go down there, becuase I guess in those situations they charge you, cancel it, and just move...

It's been thundering since about 5:30 and not even a drop from it in Des Moines.

I clearly said "that i know of" when discussing the water sources. So I obviously learned something new and admitted it. I'm sure no idea what I'm talking about in regards to splash pools, I've only been inside those pump houses about 100 times.

Yes they do. They are all located in the shelter houses and restroom buildings at the parks. A couple, Union, and Ashby you can see the access to the holding tanks outside the building where the recycled water is stored.

There is zero false information I gave in my 2nd point. They are on the cities municipal water supply, but do not need a huge amount of fresh water to operate. I used to work in aquatics so have seen the inner workings on how splash pools operate.

What email? The 4 splash pools in Des Moines store the water in underground tanks under the shelters. Maybe they are talking about the spraygrounds.

Looks like they've closed all the splash pools and spray grounds in Des Moines. I wonder what political reason was given for this becuase they all use closed internal systems that were filled a month ago and dont need much fresh water added to operate.

I dont think the total amount of water is the problem. They are letting out healthy amounts from Saylorville right now. I think the main issue is nitrates are so high the treatment plants are having issues keeping up with those levels to deliver suitable water.

Yeah, I wasn't aware of all that. I know someone that worked in public works that told me all this info, but he retired over 20 years ago so may not be aware of any additional work they've done to tap into the outflow from Saylorville.

Where do they pump from the Des Moines? That seems like a very expensive and inefficient option as the treatment plant isn't really that close to the Des Moines River.

No, they currently have zero capabilities to pull from the Des Moines River that I know. They decided to use the Racoon for whatever reason back in the 1800s to pull water. Then they created Moffitt Lake as the backup back in the 40s.

I had to repair a bunch of grass in my yard this spring. I spent alot of money reseeding it and the parts that aren't established enough will die if we don't get some rain. Yeah, I understand it's first world problems, but it's really irritating they have to let it come to this before actually...

And meanwhile there is still heavy flow being let out of Saylorville right now running right through the city that nobody has thought to use within the last 60 years.
