What's ISU's Skeleton in the Closet?

Not really a skeleton, but I remember when John Culbertson fired some shots at a car on campus and then disappeared from the bball team shortly thereafter. Went over to Northern Illinois for a couple seasons and there was a warrant for his arrest in Iowa.

    Iowa city tailgating

It's on the other side of campus, probably a mile or so, but it's not exactly a straight line. I've walked it before when I didn't want to wait for the shuttle, just follow the crowd and you'll be fine. Last year for the Iowa-Indiana game, some folks from Indianapolis hung out with us before and...

    Iowa city tailgating

The lot at Hancher is free and there is a free shuttle to and from Kinnick. It's more low key and relaxed than the tailgating near the stadium. If you stop by our tailgate, I'll be happy to share a beer and a brat.

Who fits in the 'Hall of Very Good'?

And his son played on the basketball team -- that's pretty cool too!

Who fits in the 'Hall of Very Good'?

Shamus McDonough Brian Neal Tommy Davis Ed Williams Dennis Ross Ennis Haywood (RIP) Some of these guys played on bad teams, but their names stick in my memory.

    Best Sportscaster in Iowa

A little biased, but Pete Taylor was hands-down my favorite. Dolph is better than Zabel, but not much. Super nice guy with a good attitude.

    Favorite Pete Taylor memory

Ha -- that was me bringing my boys down for last Saturday's game. Your post reminded me of another game, perhaps the same one since it was against a Tubbs-era Oklahoma team, where Woody Mayfield was making a bunch of terrible calls and dad and Eric started chirping at him a bit -- he flipped...

Texas game -- first trip to Hilton in years

Hilton Magic was alive and well on Saturday night. Great game, very nostalgic to be back. Got to see the media room and get a few pics of the kids next to the Pete pictures. ISU could not have been a better host and treated us like VIPs. Kids got to meet Monte Morris and Georges Niang -- two of...

Texas game -- first trip to Hilton in years

That's probably true. The ability to reach across the country/globe instantly and comprehensively was still sort of in its infancy in the early 2000s.

Texas game -- first trip to Hilton in years

I'm not sure -- he might have embraced certain new technologies and kept an old school attitude about others. Live radio was definitely the passion. I have a fairly strong feeling that things like Twitter, Facebook and other social media would NOT have been his favorite.

Texas game -- first trip to Hilton in years

Easy there, I'm not trolling anyone. Being a fan of both teams isn't mutually exclusive -- but if you're an alumni of one school, that's probably how you should identify yourself on message boards. I don't chime in much here, but I've earned my stripes as a Cyclone. Looking forward to a trip...

Texas game -- first trip to Hilton in years

Haha, that wouldn't happen. I've been to Hilton way too many times as a fan to know better. But in an alternate universe say it did -- well, he wouldn't be too pleased and would be very cross at the next family dinner.

Texas game -- first trip to Hilton in years

We are getting a pregame tour of the media room -- haven't been there since dedication when kids were much younger. Don't worry, it's the user name only -- we will all be appropriately decked out in cardinal and gold.

Texas game -- first trip to Hilton in years

Saturday will be my first game at Hilton since 2011. Bringing the Taylor clan down from Minneapolis -- Pete's grandkids are super excited, hoping to show them what Hilton Magic is all about!
