So it goes....

Currently reading a book called Aftermath. Hits the era between the end of WWII and 1955 in Germany

Last year a book that I enjoyed was Beyond the Wall - A History of East Germany

Germany has an "interesting" time in the 1900s
Who is the author? I would like to read this too.

The Sober Lush - https://amzn.to/3Snl3x3

Been off the sauce since last July because of health reasons and this book is a collection of short stories that basically go through different scenarios that are typically alcohol forward and what happened doing it sober. (think wedding receptions, new years, a first date etc)

Designed to be told for people who are interested in reducing alcohol intake whether that's full sober or sober curious or just want to do more things without alcohol involved.

The short story aspect lets me just read a story or two every once in a while and not feel like you missed anything or forgot something.

I’ve been reading Moby ****, off and on, since October. Have about a sixth of it left. Good lord. It’s a difficult read.
I've tried multiple times to get through that, and it's such a slog. Same thing goes for Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Like many people, I assume, I decided to read it after watching Apocalypse Now, thinking "I loved the movie. Surely the book that it's based on is awesome too!"

It's not.

I finished it, but damn...

With the "main sports seasons" out of the way, I've found myself some more free time and have started up a new book series: The Lightbringer Series by Brent Weeks. I'm only halfway through the first book, but it's got me locked in... excited to se where it goes.

Exciting part about this series, is that I know it is complete. I've given up hope on Rothfuss and RR Martin.

After this is done I'll likely throw in a classic or two to change it up. What's everyone else been reading?
I'm stuck on the Sam Johnstone legal thrillers by James Chandler. I think I'm on book 6 by now in the 8-book set.

It’s an ass kicker. I’ll probably go pick Heart of Darkness up next. Just keep on punishing myself.

Doing my reread of WoT as well. About at the end of Book 3.
I started "re-reading" those last summer doing audiobooks. Got through book 5. Haven't worked up the courage for the 6-10 slog (although #9 Winter's Heart was one of my favorites. Normally I don't like audiobooks as I tend to space out for portions, but since I've already read all the books, I'm not worried about missing some stuff.

I just finished book 5 of Dungeon Crawler Carl. These books are a ton of fun, fast paced and ridiculous. More than a little dark, as well.
Have you read any of the Zoey Ashe books by David Wong/Jason Pargin?

That sounds like it might be in a similar vein.

Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits, Zoey Punches the Future in the ****, and Zoey is too Drunk for this Dystopia.

I'd highly recommend them. Surreal, hyper violent, and very funny.

Currently reading Shogun by James Clavell

The library had a re-release that cuts it in half on Libby (e-book lender), but I'm doubting I'm going to get to the end of "Book 1" before it's due.

Rewatching Band of Brothers since its May, and think I'll pull the Ambrose book off the shelf again when I'm done with Shogun

I personally think the Zoey Ashe, as well as John Dies at the End, are better but Dungeon Crawler Carl is also solid and they are somewhat similar. DCC really leaned into the idea that it was life turned into a video game, and the first half or so reminded me a little too much of Ready Player One in that regard. Definitely finished strong though, and I did pick up the 2nd book for whenever I get around to it.

John Dies at the End is absolutely twisted. I loved it though.
