This is the type of player I think you'll see at ISU. He isn't Harrison Barnes or Marcus Paige where he'll score 15-20 most nights. He's a guy that will stuff the stat sheet and play good defense. Should have a very solid career at ISU.

I’m extremely excited for him next year. He just has that it factor. Always seems in control, similar to hunter in that regard, and will pair nicely on the court together. We will be feisty on the perimeter on defense.

I saw Ames’ games in sub-state final vs Hoover and state semifinal win vs CR Kennedy. Honestly, he looks like he’s not challenged with Iowa HS basketball. He scored 4 points against Hoover in a blowout win and never looked to score. I like the fact that he plays with no ego. I think he could average 25 but he doesn’t need to. He has good players around him and they easily won a state title without him scoring a lot. He’s got a Big 12 body now and is an elite passer. He also has good instincts defensively, reminds me of Hunter. We will love this kid in a Cyclone uniform.

Saw him tonight and the game in Missouri. Thought his vision was off the charts but handle was a bit loose.

Tamin will be a great piece to add next year. Without his ACL injury as a Soph he'd be a 4/5 star right now. His ball control/IQ/passing is elite for a high schooler. He's fast and his change of pace is insane.

(Like Tyrese) He will need to become a better shooter because at the HS level he can just drive past everyone, will be much harder to do that in the B12. Love him as a prospect, could be in Ames for a long time and be one of better Cyclone guards in the last several years.

Ive always liked the Aaron Craft comparison for Lipsey. Plus athlete and fierce competitor. Probably wont ever be a volume scorer.

I think Tyrese Hunter is the more natural scorer. Lipsey and Hunter will play well off eachother. As Tyrese continues to develop his shot I can see him turn into an elite scorer with Tamin taking more of a facilitator role.

Did Steve Kramer play for Johnston? He’s their star, headed to South Dakota. He got injured in semi last night and was hobbling around in 2nd half. Ames was clear favorite, but without a healthy Kramer Johnston had no chance.

Played but was ineffective and was pulled. Game went to continuous clock middle of the 3Q.

Pumped for this guy to be in a Cyclone uniform. He's a winner. He and King are foundational type players IMO.
I hope you’re right, but still only cautiously optimistic. Both would likely be rated higher if not for injuries during high school so possible they’re more “under the radar” for lack of a better term. Both extremely athletic and seem to have high basketball IQs. When you get into that 100+ ranking range it’s so difficult to say who is going to pan out and who is not.

Congrats Tamin and Ames High! No. 1 in the State was their goal all year and they pulled it off.

Excited to see Tamin in Cardinal and Gold next year!

Edit: Who was the team that beat them (Ames) this year (MO team I think) and how did they wind up in their State? Do you think Ames could play them a better game now than earlier in the year?

- Ames lost 3 this year, though they had 2 starters in the two Iowa games they lost (Lipsey being one of them)

- Christian Brothers was the Missouri team. Rumor was Tamin was sick, I have no clue if that’s true, but he didn’t look good. I do not think Ames would play them much better, because they had a 7 footer just stand under the hoop and forced Ames to shoot. Ames typically is not a shooting team, with the exception of the state championship game.

- Christian Brothers is in the state semifinals. Next game won’t be played until Thursday night

Does Ames High have any other D1/D2 recruits (or potential recruits) on the team ?

Also how does this Ames team compare to past Ames State Championship teams? I can remember the '72-73 team (Burgason, Schneider, Carrol) was very dominant, one of the best ever in Iowa at the time. Others were the '75-76 team, and the Hoiberg team '90-91. And I would imagine the '09-10 Barnes/McDermott (won two State titles) team might be considered the best?

Corey Philips had football offers to UCF and Kansas but chose to go to Grandview. trevion labeaux has jucco offers and I see him playing D1 somewhere after a year or two there. Lueth is a lengthy JR that will be the main guy next year that I see playing some level of basketball post high school. I also really like the potential of the sophomore Jack Wynter. You really can’t compare them to the 09/10 teams though. On top of the lottery picks they had two other D1 players and others that played JUCCO and D1 baseball.
