I don't remember if this has been discussed, but it's nice to see some movement in the right direction.

If Texas, UCLA, Oregon, and Notre Dame would start/reinstate their programs, the sport at the D1 level would be saved for a very long time.

I've never really thought about Notre Dame wrestling, but it makes a ton of sense. They'd be in a great recruiting spot between Illinois and Ohio, and the ACC is a solid wrestling conference.

Notre Dame was a real **** show in how they handled cutting the program. Gave the head coach one day's notice, and also took endowed money that was earmarked for wrestling and divvied it up to other sports.

I was looking at a map of all teams. Thought it was weird that something like half US states don’t have a D1 wrestling program.

This is good news for wrestling.

Would love to see some major Schools add wrestling again. Have a big need for somewhere in the Southeast - someone like Florida, Florida St, Miami, Georgia, or Georgia Tech would be great.

Yeah, well I could put up with him if it meant getting some quality wrestling here, particularly if the Cyclones made an appearance once in a while. When I was in Virginia I made it to a couple of duals where the Cyclones attended, as well as the Richmond open. Always fun to see the boys in person, and my kids got to meet some great Cyclones (Varner, Sanderson, Zabriske, TnT).

Don't hold your breath on FBS schools adding/restarting programs -- especially not P5 schools.

Growth at the D-1 level will come from schools moving up (Bellarmine, Cal Baptist, Presbyterian, Lindenwood) and from smaller/FCS schools (Morgan State).

For real? That feels like a law suit deal. Even for a private school.

Speaking of new teams... Is there any chance ISU ever puts together a womens wrestling team? I'm sure there's some title ix issues. I actually think it's cool that toe is putting one together. Although, are they only able to do it because of canning those other sports a year or two ago? I actually don't know anything deeper than they're starting a team.

Part of the settlement deal in the Title IX lawsuit resulted in women's wrestling being added. And they can likely fund it with the money that would have been spent on the 3 men's sports that got cut.

How does Lindenwood support so many sports? For a small school they have a ton of pretty good small sports, shooting and biking come to mind.

Looked on their website they may be club sports? They are listed as SLS sports.

"SLS" = Student Life Sports. Effectively, club teams.

They draw the top competitors of those sports somehow. Read on their web page they are moving more than just wrestling to D1. Damn I don't know how they afford it.

Maybe all their Olympic sport athletes are on academic and arts scholarships like how naia and d3 schools do jt
