Just need to periodically remind folks of how INACCURATE the Trice throwbacks were:

Trice-yellow-or-gold13.jpg

Carry on.

Still, they were a cool tribute. I really like them. I'd love to see a gold version with cardinal stripes. Can someone mock one up?

2023 will be the 100th anniversary of Jack Trice's tragic death. The school needs to make a big deal of that and be ready with a very cool Trice throwback uniform. And maybe schedule a game with Minnesota that year...

That works for me. Like you said, the gold shade is still not right, but I get it.

I'd take the '82 uniform colors, but the Trice Throwbacks even nail it a bit better IMO.

The problem is the Trice Throwbacks aren't ISU colors. That metallic, shiny gold is not ISU. They were cool jerseys, but if we're talking about getting our base unis right, we shouldn't look to those.

The sunflower/76 gold, whatever you want to call it, is the right idea. I don't think we've seen a photoshop yet that gets that gold right. Just a tip for those taking the time to do those, leave out the socks. It distorts what the jersey looks like. I'm not really a fan of the G/C/G look, at least as I've seen it in this thread. I liked the '82 (I think) C/C/G look much better, but that gold is a little too dark. White numbers also looks like the way to go based on all of these old pics. The dehydrated piss yellow, firetruck red, and black trim is gross.

...and now gold primary elements are not even in the kit.

Not often. I would imagine him as more of one of these guys.

I think the evidence is pretty plain what Campbell thinks of gold.

I have not paid too much attention to exact shades of gold, current or past, until past few days. Not really "exact" unless you have the color number, make it, and see it in real life though, 3d, shadows, etc.

That said my closest, and I have limited photo-editing skills, approximation to our current yellow/gold is this:
CyUni 2022 c1 12 - r r y RedfaceRRB RdScksCurrentGoldClose.png Seems pretty bright huh? And it is. In 1D w/ my photo-editor, it is actually a bit darker shade than here and here, what we are currently using: isu uni 53 yellow.jpg isu unis red 2 2018.jpg

I think many of us wonder why we went to this brighter shade of gold, maybe in '83 w/ Criner (?), with some mild variation probably since? Who had a vote in that? What we had prior to that, for many years, was better.

I have two pieces of evidence for you.

(1.) The proof is in the pudding. Toledo is navy/gold and Iowa State is cardinal/gold, but both schools experienced a significant decline in gold elements as a part of their football kits once Campbell became the head coach of each program.

(2.) I think Campbell basically said it on a podcast with CW. I think CW has repeated a few times on podcasts and the radio show when the inevitable uniform conversations come up. I know I remember Campbell saying he loves black, too, and you can see that in his personal wardrobe, which presents complications considering black and gold is still something of a taboo for our athletic department and fan base.

The fact the redesign led to cardinal, white, and black elements -- like we are Louisville or something -- instead of gold a few years ago should tell you everything.
The question I have again, do you think Campbell might be more open to a gold set if we had our '67-'82 gold?

Probably not.

Campbell would probably do this all the time if he could get away with it --

So out of curiosity (and shear boredom) I went through compiled all of the official colors for the teams that use some version of red and gold/yellow.

For most of these, I tried to use official style guides that most universities have published. Otherwise, I pulled the colors from here: https://teamcolorcodes.com/ncaa-color-codes/

Odd tidbit, the team with the colors that are closest to what ISU uses, is the Calgary Flames.

What is the Pantone/RGB/CMYK for that version of the gold?

The cardinal shades are 202C (regular) and 187C (alternate)
The gold shades are 123C (regular) and 121C (highlight, for 4-color applications).

The shades on the uniforms probably fall under "as close as we can get with this material."

Can anyone think of any football team, college or pro, that uses a "gold" similar to the one pictured below? Maybe Boston College? I can't think of any myself. Which is just another reason to go back to it IMO. And I personally LOVE the white numbers too. But the cardinal and gold used in the pic below is perfect IMO.....

I miss the Big 8.
Yeah and those '77 unis were sweet, understated, perfect really. That's the gold we had, the helmet, etc. Then the two variations that year, both Away g/w/g, Beat Iowa, and Iowa State (Peach Bowl) across the front w/ sh stripes.

What the he!! happened after that? Well really after '82? :(
