And any number with loftier salaries that I wouldn't trade for even-up: Frank Martin, Brad Underwood, Cuonzo Martin, Shaka Smart, on and on.

5. Bill Self – Kansas
Total Compensation: $4,480,000*
Additional Compensation: 100% of Kansas Athletics’ royalty payments from sale of in-store retail merchandise sold in June
Notes: $230,000 in base salary, $2,750,000 for professional services rendered; Total compensation includes an annual retention payment of $1.5 million that Self can earn as part of a lump sum of $6 million on March 31, 2022 that was earned across the previous four contract years. It will only vest on March 31, 2022 so if Self is not Kansas’ coach on that date, he won’t be entitled to any of the $6 million
Max Bonus: $525,000

Any speculation on what is included in "professional services"?
We already know about the Adidas payments,

That is strange he's not listed. Last I knew, I thought his compensation was about the same as Prohm's.

Big 12 has 5 of the top 15. Jacobson at #50 was a bit of a surprise...that's big bucks, relatively, for the level he is at.

Especially considering his results the last 3 seasons (no winning records)in a conference that doesn't have WSU the last two or Creighton for all 3.

Cronin's salary is more like 3.5 milly, as they are including a one time, 2 million$ bonus if he remains employed one year.

10. Bob Huggins – West Virginia

Total Compensation: $3,955,000

.....

Contract Term Ends: June 30, 2022, after which coach will transition to Emeritus Status Coach from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2027, and will no longer be the head coach; Coach may elect to pursue a mutual option to continue as head coach past the 2021-22 season if written notice is provided to the athletic director by September 1, 2020; Future mutual options may be explored if coach gives written notice each year by September 1; Continuation as head coach past the 2021-22 season will not affect the contract term but coach will serve as Emeritus Status Coach for no less than two years, which means that if coach’s continuation as head coach extends beyond the 2025-26 season, the years of Emeritus Status will be adjusted to include a minimum of two years

Huggs got himself a golden parachute. I think he'll coach for another 3-4 years and hang it up at age 70.

That UCLA coaching search was quite a cluster if I remember right. The more people that turn you down, the higher the salary gets to get a "Quality of coach that UCLA deserves."

Self and Izzo seem underpaid based on what Coach K and Calipari are getting. That $6 million kicker for Self if still employed in March of 2022 seems more interesting now.

The petty side of me hopes JP gives Prohm an extra $150k to get him higher than Hoiberg.

When I lived in Kansas City a couple years ago, this came up. Due to Kansas state tax laws, people could set up pass through entities that would eliminate that person from paying state taxes. While the Kansas City star or other news organization only found a couple of people doing this, Self was one of them. Essentially, Self has a company in which KU contracts with for him to be coach. KU pays the company and his company pays Self. So, I assume professional services has something to do with that. This is from memory and I may be wrong, but I do remember with the state of Kansas's tax issue, these pass through entities were being brought up in the news.

Not sure Huggy makes it 3-4 years...health-wise. Guy is one stressed dude.

We know he’s benefited greatly from injury and prior coaching staffs recruits, but this will probably be a rough year for K-State.
Weber's in his 8th year at K-State. Last year's championship banner was won with all his own recruits. Why do you use the adverb "probably"?
