He thought that would fall to either TxT's Culver or K-State's Barry Brown. I guess POY by definition is not necessarily the best player if you give it some thought. Although Culver may be the best player as well. He mentioned Shayok, but I believe that one has sailed. I wonder if Fran has some inside dope?

It's idiotic to suddenly make it the "best player on the team thats finished first". Kansas has won 14 straight Big 12 titles but only had 5 Big 12 PoY winners in that time. So NOW everyone thinks the winner must be a guy from the team that wins? How convenient.

Lawson has been the best player and should win.

I think a legit argument could be made for Culver as well. I think it will between those two.

Agreed, I think he should win but the other 2 are very good candidates. I would choose Brown or Lawson.

How often is it he #1 scorer in conference? Seems like it follows that more than the conf champ. If I am remembering straight, which is not a given.

So who on KU clearly deserved it more?
I know Fran has KU fans all twisted, but Lawson not getting the award wouldn’t solely be because KU was third or fourth.

Which is my point. Fran is framing the conversation that it should be the best player off the first place team.

I have no problem with the previous winners (except I thought Wiggins should have won over Ejim). I am just pointing out that the criteria has never been "best player on best team" in the past so it shouldnt be now as Fran is calling for. Frankly, Self said the same thing but that is a coach speaking kindly of fellow conference members and is pure coachspeak.

Lawson leads the entire conference in both points and rebounds. No player has ever done that and NOT been Big 12 PoY.

I have no issue with this. Give it to Lawson and hopefully that will convince him he is ready to move on.
Agreed. He has been both our best player and the main reason why our offense isnt working as well as in other seasons. The ball sticks when it gets to him and Self's offense works best when the ball moves from side to side. I kinda hope he leaves and we replace him with Matthew Hurt, an elite recruit from Minnesota we are targeting. He fits what Self does better.

Last time you wished a player to leave it was Vick because you were going to get Romeo Langford. Be careful what you wish for

I think coaches have a general loathing for Self and his crooked program. So, they'll look for reasons to not award him or anything connected. This FBI thingy is casting a very long shadow. The handshake between dollar Bill and Kruger was something less than genuine last night.

Wiggins wasn't the most valuable player on his own team.

And I think you generally make up things to fit your narrative.

Can you imagine KU without Lawson? Woof. They would have been playing on Wednesday night!
