There certainly want much to complain about the start to this game. There wasn’t much that could go wrong for the ladies. Racing out to a 10-0 lead, you could see the ladies had come ready to play and play they did. While Carlton made some good hustle plays, this was a day that was about everyone. Joens continues to improve game by game as she scored inside and out. She hit six treys as the team shot 47% from deep. That big first quarter saw the team shoot 70% from the field as they raced to an almost insurmountable 39-11 lead. From there out the two teams (OU started four frosh) battled to a draw with OU never getting closer than the final margin.
The team definitely cooled off after the first as they went just over three minutes to start the second without a score until Wise nailed a trey. Speaking of Wise...this girl is starting to remind me of Megan Taylor, or as my friend used to call her..."the little engine that could." She hustles her tail off and rebounds in a similar manner to Taylor and is developing her three point touch. You always used to see Taylor on the move and Wise is putting in the same effort.
Scott continues to shine down low and Burkhall had a solid game coming off the bench. She was a rebounding monster picking up a team high 10 boards. She did have one strange play as she pulled down her 8th board and had no one to pass to. Rather than dribble she had the ball stolen under the OU basket. Of course OU missed the basket.
After the game Sheri was very complimentary of our team. Every comment she made pointed to a group that plays team ball. She had the chance to see everyone play and even the subs did a good job of maintaining the lead. The only question I had pertained to the limited play of Rae Johnson. I didn’t see anything happen to her and may have missed something.
After two tough losses the team played like an upper echelon Big 12 team. We need to continue seeing this level of play if we hope to end up on the opposite side of the tourney bradket from Baylor. We get to see how we match up with the Bears in our next outing in Waco...a place that has never been very friendly to the sisters. Here is hoping they bring their "A" game. If they do it should be fun to watch.
