2025 field work
I stopped rolling a few years ago. Although it is nice for fall harvest, in my own fields it seemed to occasionally hurt emergence, and made the ground subject to wind erosion. My neighbor keeps rolling and almost every spring I have to deal with his corn stalks along my fence lines. -

Hopefully these rains are just what those soybeans needed. Seen similar problems in fields in North Central Iowa as well. Not sure if it is related, but almost all of the fields I have seen with spotty emergence were rolled after planting. I did notice some yellowing in the soybeans yesterday... -

Your favorite movie that your significant other would never get or enjoy like you wish they would.
If this movie comes on, my wife grabs her book and heads for another room. Meanwhile, I watch it again as I think I am so smart and could figure out the mortgage crises and profit like the main characters. Apparently my wife isn't interested in CDO's and tranches of mortgage held... -

What I see is corn maturity is being stretched in N Iowa - similar to what BC is saying; however beans are the staying at the same maturity - just being planted earlier. A young sharp farmer I work with made the comment "I am chasing yield - thus soybeans from April 10 - 20; corn April 20 -... -

Historically our best corn yields (according to Pioneer) are after April 20th, and early planted corn has resulted in poorer crop stands, vigor and yield potential. But will that be the case in 2025? Uhgg! -
