    2025 field work

I stopped rolling a few years ago. Although it is nice for fall harvest, in my own fields it seemed to occasionally hurt emergence, and made the ground subject to wind erosion. My neighbor keeps rolling and almost every spring I have to deal with his corn stalks along my fence lines.

    2025 field work

Hopefully these rains are just what those soybeans needed. Seen similar problems in fields in North Central Iowa as well. Not sure if it is related, but almost all of the fields I have seen with spotty emergence were rolled after planting. I did notice some yellowing in the soybeans yesterday...

    ***2025 PGA Tour Thread***

They should move to my home 9 hole course. I unfortunately still find it very challenging after golfing it for 40 years! (Or it could be that my legendary slice has now become a legendary hook ). Question: Have you every found yourself two fairways off on a drive? I mean one fairway -...

Your favorite movie that your significant other would never get or enjoy like you wish they would.

If this movie comes on, my wife grabs her book and heads for another room. Meanwhile, I watch it again as I think I am so smart and could figure out the mortgage crises and profit like the main characters. Apparently my wife isn't interested in CDO's and tranches of mortgage held...

    2025 field work

What I see is corn maturity is being stretched in N Iowa - similar to what BC is saying; however beans are the staying at the same maturity - just being planted earlier. A young sharp farmer I work with made the comment "I am chasing yield - thus soybeans from April 10 - 20; corn April 20 -...

Which Iowa border state would you be most afraid of in a state vs state civil war?

Honestly...probably like the rest of the country right now. And although team urban has the population and gang experience, rural has all the food and energy resources. Thus if team rural can withhold the initial surge from the urbans, they will soon run out of food, which will lead to...

    Vacation in the Black Hills

Sylvan Lake is beautiful. Needles Highway is a must. Take in Mount Rushmore at night and attend their evening closing ceremony - very moving experience as you stand together with your fellow Americans. We went during covid...I think only 10% of people were wearing masks. Deadwood is ok...a...

    2025 field work

Historically our best corn yields (according to Pioneer) are after April 20th, and early planted corn has resulted in poorer crop stands, vigor and yield potential. But will that be the case in 2025? Uhgg!

NIL - Is It What You Expected / Specific Changes Needed

Honestly, the combination of NIL, and the destruction of college conferences and traditions has caused apathy in my love for the Cyclones. Let's be honest everyone....what the hell are we doing? We cannot compete with the haves of the super conferences and booster contributions. And now...
