For the Camry, do you mean in terms of reliability? I test drove a top-end 2022 Camry (don’t remember because Toyota reeeeally loves their different trims) and a 2022 Accord EX-L back to back, and my wife and I both agreed almost immediately that the Honda was nicer, more comfortable, and a smoother ride. I was stunned at the difference.

This. Toyota builds great cars, but they definitely feel very basic to me. I would even say boring.

My mother in-law drives a Lexus and it's really nice. I drive an Acura and it's really nice. I'm also 35 years younger than she is and I think both cars are perfect for us.

The 2018+ models were a shock from the standpoint of edgy (by Toyota's standards) styling and cresting 300 hp. The XSE models look pretty sharp.

Big fan of the look of the Accord Sport. Haven't followed them as closely since the move to exclusively turbo fours.

Instead of Luxury brand, why not buy the high-end trim level of any Nissan or Toyota? Save yourself thousands just for some badges and emblems? Like a top of the line Toyota Camry or Avalon is going to be similar to a Lexus.

During my life, I have owned an Acura, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Lexus, and Mercedes. The least expensive one to own has been my 2006 Toyota Camry, which my son drives and has 270M miles. The most expensive is my current vehicle, which is a 2013 Mercedes ML 350. The cost for front and rear brakes and new plugs was $4,000!

Based on my experience, I would recommend a Lexus if you want an affordable luxury vehicle. They will run forever and are not cost prohibitive to maintain. The dealership will charge you an arm and a leg to service, but they are not more complicated the Toyotas or Hondas. Therefore, you can find a good mechanic for much cheaper.

The differences will be small but noticeable to picky drivers. Extra sound deadening. Different steering and pedal efforts. More pleasant haptics and feedback - when you close the door, it will have a satisfying, secure latch sound with no other rattles or squeaks. That doesn't mean it's a more effective or safer door, it just has a higher quality feel.

These poors. They don't understand the sound of a properly closing door.

2016 Accord and 2020 Odyssey owner. I'm set for vehicles until 2030 and the earliest. Love our Hondas
I had one and drove it to 239000 miles before I decided to sell it, then bought a 2011 Lexus 6 years ago and Lexus and Honda are the best cars I’ve ever owned hands down

55k on the 16 Accord and 15k on the Odyssey. Would love to get to 200k on each.

Change the oil on time, do the transmission filter changes when required and you'll pretty much get them. That's my 2 cents sources 2011 chevy cruze 251,000 2003 Dodge Dakota 261,000, 2013 F150 106,000.

Check out Genesis. Hyundai's high end.

I don't think this can be overstated.

I was driven around in one for a week during a work trip about 8 years ago overseas before I started hearing about them in the US. Would probably be a similar model year that would be in your price range. It was amazing.

As an owner of an Audi I can confirm your concerns. That being said I absolutely love my Audi.
I owned an Audi A4 in the past and it was unstoppable in the snow. Have been driving Jags ever since, currently driving an XF with all wheel drive. Very reliable and really kicks ass when I blow the doors off of big dumb pickups with parakeet logos.

With the Bimmer the little problems were many initially, but the aftermarket parts have corrected those things. I was fortunate to have found one well maintained by the first owner. A fair amount of it at Campus Garage in Ames. It's a fantastic machine all dialed in. I would expect the exact same thing in an Audi.

It's well known that Toyota and Lexus find a reliable vehicle and then ride it out forever. A perfect example is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner. It's going to be super reliable because nothing had changed in a decade. With that your going to get a very dated interior, a 5 speed transmission, and basically a bad vehicle compared to it's competitors but it will easily go 200k miles.

I heard the Brits never broke into the global IT market because they couldn't figure out how to make a computer drip oil.

Quattro for the win. It's a beast in the snow. Only issue is that it sits so low, it's easy to plow higher snow drifts if I'm not careful.

I absolutely love my BMW X3. I would have preferred a Volvo XC60, had they had any with head’s up, and that will likely be my next vehicle - but I have zero regrets about the X3 and would have no problem owning another.

A BMW and a loaded pickup are the same price range, so it is a little bit of an imbalance at this point.

Not really but sure. Just 20+ consecutive years of attending the Chicago Auto Show until Covid. Also compare the amount of desperation of a luxury brands mentioned here compared to their Honda/Toyota counterparts.
