Why is Lucca Staiger an almost complete bust?

My point is that he could be doing so much more for us. We really need more points from the paint, and with his height and size there is absolutely no excuse that he can't score inside.

He is a 3 point shooter. He shoots 3's and makes them. Thats his job. McDermott has even said he needs to shoot more and stop driving to the hoop. He is not going to get very many points inside of the 3 point line. The sooner you accept that the sooner we stop seeing these dumb threads.

Rookie of the week twice already this season and there is a lot a ton of season left. Hmmmmm had knee surgery before the season started and still is not 100%. Good passer which is something we are lacking in so far this season, also gives defenses problems because he is tall at his posistion and stocky in my opinion and can shoot lights out. My god what more do you want out of his first time in the big twelve and D1 ball?? If you do not like it then get your butt out there and try really try to do better I doubt you could. Lucca is doing really good and it has only begun, watch the second half of the season. Yesterday was just one of those games where the opposing team just makes everything they throw up, they will adjust just watch.

I read all the replies. They fall into one of two categories: (1) replies that attack my personally; or (2) replies that say, basically, that it is fine that he has about 5 points this year inside the 3-point line.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, if he's in the paint, how is he supposed to feed the paint? He's arguably our best person to feed the ball in to Brackins/Hamilton. Hard to do if he's hanging out in the paint all the time. He's a shooting guard stuck playing the 3 because we have no one else to put there.

I am more than a little disappointed in Lucca's performance this year. I expected more. I blame this on his total reliance on the 3-point shot. In yesterday's game at Missouri he was 2-for-6 for 3-pointers and had NO points inside the 3-point line. He really, really, really needs to develop an "inside" game. It isn't like he's really short. Nebraska, for example, has only 4 players taller than him, and they are doing better than us so far this year.

I am more than a little disappointed in today's youth and their unrealistic expectations and absolute lack of perspective. Hurry back to the Cartoon Network - Sponge Bob is on.

I think these threads are piling up after three years of so-so football and bball teams. When will one of our teams brreak out of the chute. Missouri is maybe the 6th best team in the Big 12. Maybe.

Spongebob isn't on Cartoon Network

He's a Nickelodeonian?

So you make one of the dumbest threads in the past few weeks and now your crying that people are attacking your intelligence?? I feel so sorry for you.:jimlad:

What a true Cyclone fan... Calling out a player after 3 Big 12 games. He had knee surgery right before the start of the season. His main job is to shoot 3 pointers and bring the D out.

How many times did Nurse, Horton, Sullivan, Beechum, or any other great 3 pt shooter at ISU score consistently inside the 3 pt line. We were told before he came that he is an outside shooter and not to expect much inside. I'm fine with that.

Your thread combined with your crying about people attacking you makes you sound like a fickled Hawkeye fan. Please do yourself a favor and just stop trying to argue your point. You're only making yourself sound dumber.

wow!! rookie of the week twice already in the Big 12 and a bust?
why, or why do we have to place and allow this kind of stuff in a public website that 'claims' to have a bunch of ISU fans in it.

this guy stuck with us for the past year, after getting the shaft and we insult him publicly after a bad shooting game.

He's only 6'5, not exactly post height to me.

I watched the Nebraska game. It was tied with about 3 minutes left in the game. We had a late-game spurt, but that that away and it is conceivable they could have won it. Basically, it was a pretty evenly matched game. Here are the leading scorers for Nebraska:

S. Harley 5'11" 10 points

A. Dagunduro 6'5' 13 points

C. Miller 5'7" 11 points

So, their tallest player is the same height as Staiger (and 30 pounds lighter, BTW). By your argument, Nebraska has NO post players, and yet they scored most of their points inside (one 3-pointer from these three players) AND almost beat us.

So what if his main game is making threes? I'd take a player who can consistently pop the three over a player who can only nail mid range jumpers.

3>2

thats not a bad thing.

How could you be disappointed in Lucca if you had never seen him play before? If your answer is internet hype, thats your fault.

On the 360, I could have this team averaging 100 points a game with relative ease. Therefore, I am disappointed with everyone associated with the MBB program, and expect each of them to individual address their failure to achieve my video-game based hypothetical expectations promptly, if not sooner. I will be here waiting for their reply.

Or I'll spend some time wondering what my expectations were, and if that was the real problem. One of the two.

IMPORTANT point..... Lucca's knee is still hurt and GMac has stated on numerous postgame shows he does NOT think the risk of sending Lucca to the boards or on penetration and further damaging his knee is worth making some chatboard wannabe happy.

I have an idea for you 42, that should provide you with the answer, if you really want an answer, and aren't just trying to stir up trouble. If you really want to know, you should provide your real name, address, and phone number, and we, as an active internet site would be happy to relay that information to Lucca, if indeed, he hasn't read this thread already.
He in turn, could decide whether or not he would be willing to visit you, where, upon his arrival, you could ask him in person why he has been "almost a complete bust." After all, he is 6' 5'' and weighs over 200 pounds. I think and feel that he could be very persuasive if given the opportunity to verbally defend himself. If you aren't willing to do so, then perhaps you should reconsider what you say,... about whom,...... and how you say it.

Would you be willing to look Lucca in the eye, in person, and ask him why he has been "almost a complete bust?" If not, I for one, don't think you have any business asking a question like that, anonymously, on this board.

He is one of our own, and doing the best job that he can. I suppose you would have been the first to criticize him, had he decided to go back to Germany, and not play for us at all. But hey, then you wouldn't have had the opportunity to ask him why he has been almost a complete bust, would you?
