Kyle Kelm is.....

What is going to change in the next 4 years to make him a better matchup against our opponents?

Oh, I dunno - MAYBE PLAYER DEVELOPMENT? Cheese and rice - some of you really slay me with your incredible ability to spot talent, assess talent, and write-off talent with absolutely NO basis whatsoever. Christoperherson sucks because - well just because. Petey sucks because - well just because. Brackins sucks because he takes too many 3s but the same people say he's NBA-bound after this year. Maybe the NBA scouts should consult with some on this board since they OBVIOUSLY don't know how to do their job. Same with GMAC - despite he's probably forgotten more basketball than some of you chatboard hoop legends have seen on your X-box....

For the record, I never said Chistopherson sucks. I said he seems to be (on paper) the same player as two others on the team. So why bring in more depth at that position when 2010 is so critical? It is a fair question.

Take a pill Spokane. Go back and read cyismdog's post and than mine.

He said Mann isn't playing b/c of matchup problems. I replyed what is going to change over the next 4 years. After all, he is going to be the same height, probably going to jump the same. If he isn't a good matchup right now against some guys, he probably won't ever be. That is my point

Can he get better? Yes. Can he learn the offense/defense better? Yes. But can he be a better matchup against a 6'9 PF? No. A better matchup against a 6'5 quick SF? Probably not

For the record I f ing love Petey. I think Brackins has star written all over him and that he is starting to figure it out.

The scholly I question is Chistopherson. I've never seen the guy play at all but he sounds like a quicker Lucca and larger Eik. With the number of guards we had coming in, why bring in a guy who can't contribute immediately and then eats up a scholly for another 3 years. . . .

I know that I don't have the answer to the Christopherson scholie. The only things I know for sure:

> GMac has said he wants a scholarship ratio of 8 guards to 5 inside players. How Christopherson fits into this longrange, I don't know.

> The season before DG was Wisconsin state's MVP runner-up, Christopherson was the state's high school MVP (iirc). So, he's got some type of talent.

> When it was announced that he was transferring to ISU, a Marquette fan or two spoke up to say he isn't quick enough to play Marquette-style basketball. But, he's reputed to be a heckuva 3-point shooter. Does GMac see him in a zone-buster role, a "gunslinger" who can come in off the bench t pick up the team?

Hope Christopherson's knee is fully healed and won't decrease his mobility. Haven't heard much about how he is doing.

Coaching dictum: A team plays in a game only as well as it practices.

Do you dispute that coaches believe fervently that this doctrine is a truism? I don't know of a coach who doesn't place the highest importance on quality practices.

Practice is the foundation for what takes place in games. Therefore, who practices well is key, the way GMac sees it. I could be wrong, though. I'll try to ask GMac about this issue during his next call-in show.

Fixed it for you:wink:

GMac has said this in response to Boozer seeing playing time recently; matchups and the fact that he is performing in practice, thus earning playing time.

There was concern he would need another surgery and that he might not ever play at a high level again - but I don't know what happened from there. I guess since we haven't heard anything things must be going well though.

I truthfully have no idea about Christopherson. I know he's strong, and a good shooter, but I don't know if the knee is healed yet, or anything else.

I think KG said the thing about the knee, but that was months ago before the season started. He'd know better than I would.

I've seen this "Fixed it for you" phrase many times here. In my opinion, it is the height of rudeness. I meant to say what I meant to say, but for someone to edit one's remarks to mean something else is nothing but the highest discourtesy.

If you don't like what a poster says, reply in your own words, not by editing/inserting phrases into the original passages. This is the first time this high rudeness has been perpetrated on me (that I know about), and I'll not let it pass without remark.

The winky smiley face does not ameliorate the insult, imho.

GMac: 'You earn playing time in practice'

Come on, we're talking about practice? Practice. I mean we're not talking about a game, we're talking about practice.

Go Cyclones - Brackins' 22 points lead ISU to New Years Eve win

Charles Boozer was the seventh Cyclone to enter the (Mercer) game for the second-straight event. He played 10 minutes, the second-highest he’s played all season. He scored 2 points and had 2 assists and a rebound for ISU.

“We gave Charles Boozer and opportunity last week in practice because of a match up situation with Houston, along with the fact that Charles is practicing well,” McDermott said. “You earn playing time in practice. You aren’t going to get in a game if you don’t practice the way we expect you to. Charles was doing that so he got an opportunity and took advantage of it and was on the floor today.”

I seriously just laughed out loud. Somebody takes message boards way, way to seriously.

Hard to believe some of you have decided a young mans future because of the way you have seen him play 5 minutes in a game. Iowa State will always need to have a better coach than the Kansas and the Dukes of the world because of the lesser talent. I define coaches by how they take mediocre players and make them into pretty good players. How much coaching does it take to win with all 5* and McDonald All-Americans, far less than with 3 and 4* players. Give the coaches and Mann a chance, and for those of you who don't remember, all freshman were not allowed to play, at all. Maybe someone knows what year that changed.

Cy Valley,

I am sorry, and I will try to remember that with you in the future.

You're very courteous, and considerate, fccy. Please accept my apology for being so terse. I had a head of steam up because I've seen this editing technique here so often.

I saw the smiley face, and I was a turd for ignoring it. I let perturbation carry me away.

Please pardon the way I said what I said.

EDIT - Hmm, I see you're new here, fccy, joining up last month. Lots of veterans here have been doing this editing thing, and I welcome a new member by lashing out like a jackass. I regret it even more now. . . .

Done Deal. Thanks.

BTW Cy Valley, I think the practice statements are just a play on Allen Iverson's rant.

If I am wrong, I hope somebody fixes it for me though.

That is the way I took it. It was subtle but I think it is just a joke based on what AI said.

IP Guy, Cyinco, you mean I'm missing something? Gee, that's never happened before. (self-deprecating lol)

My working life keeps me kinda isolated, and I'm not much on current events, so I miss a lot. Thanks for letting me know.

Huh? Isn't part of the coaching job to recruit? So is Roy Williams not as good of a coach b/c he recruits 4/5 star players?!?! Answer is no
