With upcoming expanded playoff, this makes zero sense. Texas wouldn't get the autonomy they get in the Big 12 and what, Okalahoma is tired of winning the conference every year? The team is pretty much guaranteed a spot in the playoff every single year now.
It's about money and the prestige of saying you are in the SEC. The decision isn't solely based on the easiest path to the college football playoff.

With ISU being in better position now I think the Big 10 West wouldn't be bad. Road trips to NE, Minny, Wisconsin. Easy travel.

this is why ive always been a fan of "regions" rather than "conferences"

iowa state
iowa
illinois
wisconsin
minnesota
nebraska
kansas
kansas state
missouri

maybe northwestern, arkansas ?

that would be pretty cool, IMO.

I'll be looking forward to all the posters trying to defend Texas now...

Sigh. I knew your hot take would come up. We weren’t defending Texas, we bashed Nebraska and you white knighted for them. I think most agree here that BOTH Nebraska and Texas had blame with the Big 12 breakup before, yet you defend hypocritical Nebraska and blame Texas.

You can bet they aren't going to take a hit financially. It would be crazy for Arizona, etc. to leave the "name" schools of the Pac 12
There was speculation last year that ASU and the U of A were wanting to join the league. I'm with you on that I don't think they were ever going to actually make the jump because they like being able to rub shoulders with the academic institutions of the PAc-12. Especially with ASU determined to be a top notch research institution.
