Below is a transcript from Matt Campbell’s press conference from Wednesday at the Big 12 Media Days at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

MATT CAMPBELL: Let me first and foremost say just very thankful and grateful to be here, obviously to represent Iowa State University, our athletic department and certainly our football program.

I do think before getting going it wouldn’t be right for me to not say a sincere thank you to the leadership that we have gotten from the Big 12 really over the last two years. You know, from what Bob Bowlsby and Ed Stewart have done from a leadership perspective, from the challenge of last fall to the ever-changing landscape in college athletics, their communication, their leadership has been second to none.

So certainly extremely grateful. From my end, brought two of our players here with me today to represent Iowa State football. On the offensive side, Breece Hall. Breece is a junior tailback who has continued to do tremendous things for...

I bet Campbell was pissed when the "why are you still in Ames" question came up.

I love how you can read paragraphs of Campbell's speech, and he really doesn't say anything.

Coach speak is GREAT, especially when we're winning!

I would have preferred some more commitment.

I heard “I love coaching” and “I love football” and “I love building things”

I didn’t hear “I love ISU” or “I love Ames”

I was waiting for the ISU comment as well, but I think Matt stuck with a philosophical level response vs the rah rah answer that the reporter most likely expected.
Matt was obviously ready for the question and I thought he controlled the room. Davis and his crowd had to be thinking -- "Damn, I can see why this guy wins in Ames."

If there's some secret "Show other coaches the ropes" seminar, Campbell has to be the guy leading the class about how to talk to the media at length without saying one god damn thing of actual substance.

I love that the national media is being subjected to Campbell now. Dude is a freaking master of this.

This answer gives him complete control of the room, as you said. This attitude, approach and commitment sets the bar VERY high for the next person who replaces him in 20 years.

Campbell once again takes away the headline the national press is looking for. Must get pretty boring for you guys when Campbell refuses to be tripped up. Keep trying though. Every time he says this I'm proud to be a Cyclone.

Hahaha... this couldn't be more true. Love the guy, but man....

I think there was more to it. First I read the transcript, then I listened to the response, then I watched the clip. Look at his eyes when he started. It was bit of a death stare, and the first few words were forceful before mellowing out.

IMO, that response was Campbell in his own unique way calling Davis and the entire UT/OU/Blue Blood fandom/media out for being a bunch of entitled arrogant ***** for which he has no time for. It was a brilliant takedown on his part because it went over all of their heads....and a must have in the arsenal when you're expected to take the high road.

This is EXACTLY the kind of question we need the national "media people" asking him on the big stage. This is the kind of sh*t that digs his heels in even further to stay. Not that Matt needs the motivation...Personally I'm glad the dickhead from Texass asked it.

It appears that Matt Campbell has become "somebody." The questions and the national media attention demonstrate this, and I couldn't agree more. I enjoy his ability to work the media with humility and pride in what he's building at ISU.

If this year meets or exceeds our expectations a Big 12 media days reporter next year might ask , "have you surpassed being "somebody" and on your way to becoming "it." I can't imagine what that answer might be, but I'm sure it will make Cyclone fans gush with pride.

History has shown us that one can become somebody by landing in the right place at the right time. The truly great leaders and successes in life have achieved greatness by having experienced set backs along the way.

Unless CMC is truly one-of-a-kind, I'm sure there was a moment of clarity for him that helped him chart this course of success. In the quiet, I would like to know what the moment or moments were. That's when one really learns what it takes to succeed.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. What was that learning moment?

That's the book I want to read.

Excellent take ... this is exactly what I was thinking. Something has changed with CMC.
I would of loved it if he point blank said it too. However, He’s obviously made it clear to all these high level commits he’s been bagging that he’s not going anywhere or atleast he has no plans right now too. I don’t think he feels the need to say exactly I love Ames forever. He’s said multiple times “let your actions do the talking”. We know he’s built differently, I think this is nutcup talk you’re leaning into.
