I havent read all of this thread but there use to be a pizza place ( i think it was pizza anyways) inside North Grand Mall right next to the movie theater back in 2007ish, they had the absolute best smoothies I have ever had, no smoothie has ever come close to what they made, they were pretty popular, saw their smoothie cups everywhere when I was at the mall and I would always take them into movies. Hard to describe but their main strawberry smoothie almost tasted like a daiquiri but it was incredible, what I would pay to have just one of their smoothies.

A very nice Asian family owned the business I think, my memory has faded. I cant even remember what it was called, went out of business around 2008-2010.

I think it was called "Pizza and Smoothies," wasn't it?

It's probably been mentioned as couple times already in this thread, but Cafe Shi is the biggest restaurant loss in Ames of the last 20 years. Originally in campustown, but moved to Northern Lights. They had "international" cuisine, with an ever changing menu which included asian food, italian, Caribbean, American, Latin, and whatever the chefs felt like making that day. It was the kind of place to take your parents when they visited, or friends from out of town. I believe they closed due to the owner's poor health. Definitely a shame, because it was one of the best places in town.

I still have dreams of their Thai curry to this day.

Cocost chinese right on Welch. Everything was 5.00 even when I was in college. The same guy that took the orders was there no matter what time of day. I can still hear the way he'd say "Cuuuurrrry chicken" like Steph just drained a three.

I have tried to explain the little noodles to people who never had it, and how they made the whole thing magical.

I don't remember what I ordered there but I remember the noodles, a lot of cabbage for some reason, the big flexible microphone, and the Buddha that greeted you.

Is the one south of plaza on Main St in KC?

I've been to the one on Main, and the one on Barry Rd and I-29, and there's another on Barry Rd east of the one on the interstate.

Minsky's is the best.........

Yes, it's on Main Street. There also a small Italian restaurant near there on Main Street, Osteria Il Centro, that is very good.

As long as Thai Kitchen is still rolling. That's still one of my favorite restaurants in Ames.

It is! You're safe. Best curry in Ames now, however, is The Spice. Their yellow or massaman are fantastic. Thai Kitchen for so much else, though!

My spouse loved their Thai fried rice. We would come to visit and get an order when we would leave town. So good.

My fav Minsky's pizza was the Capone special - Canadian Bacon and saurkraut. I don't know if they have that any longer. I eat only gluten free pizza now.....darn.

I thought they were all mired up in wage/tax lawsuits. Surprised its still open.

Not sure of current status, but am confident that I ate there once and only once. Finding out it was the same ownership as King Runs was not a surprise at all.

The old little Taipei above subway. Everything was 2.99. Got a plate piled high. It was swamped. Couldn’t depend on it really well due to the health inspector shutting it down routinely.
Loved Little Taipei when it was there. My favorite was Mongolian Beef, extra meat and extra rice. Always had the same lady working the register.

Same for me. Had a roommate that would frequent there would demolish it all...for some reason always ended up dead for a couple days afterwards

I know the place now, forget the name, where the original Hickory Park was, told the exterminators not to come back as he would take care of the cockroach problem himself as they charged too much. The guys food is actually pretty good but after hearing that, nope. I won't go back.

Kinda like Mongolian, been there once, and haven't been there since.
