Are we even recruiting him?
We recruit everyone and no one all at the same time.
Are we even recruiting him?
What you described is a great thing! The objective even. A guard is on a 6’7” wing? He doesn’t need a great handle, he needs to use his body like Kane did or pass to the guard now defended by a forward! This is exactly why Johnson doesn’t need to be as good of pg to have a huge impact.It might be easier if a forward is guarding Johnson. With many teams playing small ball they can switch the 1-4 spots.
If Johnson becomes a weapon as point forward, then opponent coaches will switch a guard on to Johnson. So if Johnson is going to be a point forward, he better have a great handle.
In the little tape I saw of Johnson at Troy, I would compare his game to Tre Jackson last year vs. NWB or Niang.
I think we need to not focus on there being 1 PG next year rather having 3-4 players who can each initiate the offense. There isn't a Monte on the roster or available to assume that type of role.(honestly there aren't many Monte type PG in college regardless. ISU fans were spoiled for 4 years)
I wouldn't feel comfortable with Johnson was initiating every the Off every possession, but if he does it 1/4 the time it could work well and cause mismatches.
Same with having Bolton run the offense, not totally comfortable with being the primary PG but he can initiate 1/3 of the time and be effective.
The upside to this is great and would really challenge defenses.I think we need to not focus on there being 1 PG next year rather having 3-4 players who can each initiate the offense. Welcome to the board. It’s been talked about in many threads about next year’s roster.I appreciate you guys all discussing the offense and "who plays PG" and if that is even a relevant question, but I don't think we'll ultimately have trouble scoring.
Everybody moaned about our "bad offense" and "bad shooting" last year, but it was still #3 in the B12 in adjusted efficiency before Tyrese ended his career.
We really should be asking something more like, "Can we forge something a little more effective on defense and the boards than a middle school girls' team?"
I know the former is more fun to talk about and easier to conceptualize, but we should be asking way more "who can this guy defend in the B12" and "can this guy rebound in the B12 or peer opponents" than trying to figure out if they fit into the offense. Next year depends on our defense not completely sucking this time, not our O.
This is why guys like Draymond and Rodman were so important to the Warriors, Pistons, and Bulls at their peak. Defense is by definition 50% of the game, but it gets about 10% of the attention. We could really use some guys like that over scorers right now.

Had a plenty distributed PG spot.
Compared that with Monté's senior year...

We are probably going to see something like the former, not the latter.
Rank the two years together, and I think the difference is obvious...
217 = 2017 Morris
140 = 2019 Weiler-Babb
125 = 2019 Haliburton
93 = 2017 Mitrou-Long
82 = 2019 Horton-Tucker
67 = 2019 Shayok
62 = 2017 Burton
58 = 2017 Thomas
53 = 2019 Wigginton

With this program the answer is no until proven otherwise imo. We’ve been an offense first program for at least a decades.
We should recruit for it more, and have somewhat.
Bayless was a clutch free thrower in big momentsI like the Ron Bayless comparison. Really solid shooter, relentlessly pesky defender.
he’s a top transfer who could end up in the big 12 or affect the recruitment of other transfers, so I figured people might be interested to knowWe weren’t even recruiting him.

No, his game is not more like Tre than NWB or a Georges. Do you mean impact? I’d disagree there too, but less so.
I don't get how tech is still recruiting all these players. They are currently one over the scholarship limit.
