With a lot of teams playing small ball they have 6'4'-6-6" guys playing wing who can easily match up again Javon and they are used to guarding in space. So the majority of teams won't need to guard Johnson with a 6'1" guard or 6'8" post.

Also DeAndre Kane had a man's body- he was 6'4" and over 200lbs. Maybe Johnson has put on some weight since Troy, but he is listed on ISU's website at 6'6" and 195lbs. I don't think he will be using his body like a Kane, Ejim or Hogue.

Maybe Johnson has changed his body & game, but his Troy tape isn't that of a physical player. He is a tall jump shooter. During his last year at Troy over half his shots were from 3 and he got to the line on average less than 1.66x per game. That's less than Prentice Nixon got to the line at ISU last year in similar minutes.
You’re the one that mentioned bringing a guard over to defend Johnson. Now you’re back tracking from that? I get it backfired on you, but I imagine the staff will have Johnson involved on PnR action to achieve this.

Johnson being defended by a small ball 4 is still a matchup that is favorable in creating and facilitating offense. Johnson doesn’t need to be the level of pg that is required of conventional pgs. For one thing, there’s more space to work with given the 4 is now on the perimeter.

Kane was listed at 6’4” 200, Johnson 6’6” 195. If Johnson has a 6’1” guard on him per your previous example, he’ll have an advantage. Sure he’s less bulky, but he also is longer.

Can you tell me which game you watched to think he was like Tre? First, he’s more like Clyburn. Second, we don’t really know what Tre is yet.

Said it before, but Iowa St hasn't had a "PG" issue since Garrett's freshman year. PG is in "" because a couple of those years were Royce or Niang running the offense, but still, initiating the offense was not an issue.

I did not backtrack, most Big12 teams will have a 6'5"-6'7" wing that can guard Johnson straight-up. So Johnson's length, strength, quickness or ability to dribble will not be an advantage.

If there is a switch it will be another guard, not a 6'8" post. So again, Johnson's quickness will not be an advantage. His height could be an advantage, but ISU seldom posts up it's guards or cuts them to the bucket. Halliburton was 6'6" and we didn't take advantage of his height.

My comparison between Tre and Javan is based on their being an offensive threat. Tre was basically a 3 point shooter. He wasn't a finisher at the basket or assist guy. Based on Javan's tape his game is 3 point shooter and transition scorer. Neither guy showed to be a dynamic ballhandler who is going to break down defenses. It would be awesome if both are more comfortable with the ball in their hands next year.

This is why we shouldn't panic when ISU lost out on some of their initial targets. If ISU gets DeJulius then Tyler Harris likely doesn't come to ISU. Other than Aiken and Turner (who were long shots to ISU regardless) I don't think there are any players ISU has been associated with and not gotten can't be replaced with equal or even better players late in the portal.

DeJulius was the biggest realistic miss of this offseason imo. He would of fit perfectly at the point the next 2 years.

Dejulius is the biggest sit out miss
i'd argue that Turner biggest grad transfer, and overall, miss

Yeah, he would have dropped into the PG slot nicely.

Harris is not a bad consolation prize, however.

The prodigal son returned.
