I get that Coleman Lands isn’t going to save our season, but I think he’d be a solid pick up for next year.

I looked up his stats and compared them to some Big 12 guys from last year. Coleman Lands averaged 11.1 points per game on 32.1% from 3. Here are four guys with similar numbers last year.

Courtney Ramey (Texas) - 10.9 points per game on 31.3% from 3
Kyler Edwards (Tech) - 11.4 points per game on 32.2% from 3
Andrew Jones (Texas) - 11.5 points per game on 38.3% from 3
RJ Nembhard (TCU) - 12 points per game on 31.3% from 3

All of those guys are solid Big 12 players and I think that’s the hope we would have if Coleman Lands came to Ames

Indeed, Coleman-Lands projects as (at least) an average B12 starter right now, which is not magnificent but is at least a heck of a step in the right direction. He might not have PG skills, which degrades his utility slightly for not filling the highest position of need, but he is clearly better than anybody else we are closely linked to right now.

Given our current situation, he is frankly a must-get.

I think we are seeing a different approach by Prohm with this springs guard recruiting. Going away from a single ball dominant PG like Morris, to a group of guards who can all break down defenders off the dribble to score and hit jump shots. In a 1-4 offense he may view guards being able to create their own offense a better fit for ISU than a traditional PG who breaks down defenses to get their teammates shots.

I don't get why we haven't been pursuing a sit out big to replace Solomon in 21-22.

IMO the coaches feel they can sign better players next fall to fill 21/22 playing time vs. available sit out transfer bigs.

IMO they need to work JUCO's harder. I know people will say JUCO talent isn't what it used to be, but there are enough good players to fill holes. And there tends to be quality JUCO players who wait until spring to sign.

Besides Ellis, I would like Prohm to recruit the JUCO's hard to sign an Ejim/Hogue type forward to compliment Conditt & Foster.

They can then go after a HS post and guard.

He has always said he prefers having 2 guards on the floor who can both run the offense. So you may not be far off.

um because you have Conditt and Foster waiting in the wings to replace Solo in 21-22.
Conditt for only a year after Solo, and Foster too could potentially be gone if he's able to live up to his hype, a year after Solo. Getting a big or two in next year's class is crucial

Conspiracy theory. Prohm is holding back scholarships so that Solo can get an extra year of eligibility due to the season being cancelled by Covid.

I don't think any winter sport athlete can use that as a reason..

I am saying that if we don't have a winter basketball season for 20-21. I am guessing they give eligibility if they don't get to play any of their season.

Prohm has had a ball dominant PG since he became a HC at Murray (Canaan, Payne, Morris, NWB, TH). The only reason he would change is his preferred approach is out of desperation and I have a lot of doubts on his ability to succeed with an approach based on failed recruiting and desperation.

I would be very surprised if college football doesn't happen in some capacity.. So basketball, which starts practice October 15, should be a go.

I wouldn't consider NWB to be a ball dominate PG. Morris maybe his senior year, but definitely not his Junior year. We ran the offense through Niang just as much as Morris. Even his senior year Burton and Mitrou-Long had the ball a lot.

Yeah, he seems to like changing his point guards into two guards on occasion to change up the look and allow those guys more scoring options.

NWB was pretty ball dominant his junior year imo. It’s tough to get an assist rate that high without having the ball a lot.

I wonder if going after these off-guards and wings means good things about how the staff feels about Tre?

I'm very excited about Tre next year and for the future. I think he's going to be a fun one.

If he and Bolton improve, and Johnson, Blackwell, and Dubar can handle when at the 3 and 4 spots, we could have 4 ball handlers. That should help whichever player ends up being the primary pg.

Tre displayed very little last season in terms of being a future B12 quality PG and facilitator which remains, by far, next season's biggest roster need to fill.

yeah and last year we were disappointed when Wigginton wasn't starting over a lottery pick.
