Yeah but answer my questions. How many have died to this point because stricter measures haven’t been enacted. I don’t care what other states are doing. No two states are the same.

It's amazing how people keep saying "we're basically already doing shelter in place and just not calling it that" as if any sane person would use such a tortured explanation instead of just calling it "shelter in place" like everyone else on earth is doing, and be done with it.
Taking it seriously and handling it competently are two different things. Nobody doubts she is doing the former but the latter is wobbly at best.
As for her metrics, we do now actually know what her metrics are...and they're not great. Nobody knows when the tipping point is but it's almost immaterial because most of the metrics are based on data that is inherently flawed and lagging in nature.
I've been inside two buildings within the past two weeks - my house and the Urbandale Hyvee (twice). When I went to Hyvee this Saturday to stock up on stuff - it was JAM PACKED and people weren't social distancing at all (not easy within the store) so I can see how the virus would spread. The young kid checking people out wasn't even wearing gloves...
Could it be done to be proactive, to see how things go through the peak, and then peel off a bit if the curve is OK by late April?
Axne is now calling for the stay at home order as well. Is she not aware we're already doing this but just not calling it that?
That’s fine. I’ll take everything you say at face value. But once more, tell me who shelter in place should effect, what do you expect the difference to be compared to what we’re doing now, how do you enforce it, how long should it last, how do you reintroduce these hundreds of thousands of people you saved back into the same world that existed before?
Even if he was wearing gloves, that wouldn't protect anything other than his hands inside the gloves.
I’m not sure we could find that out without the ability to track exactly who these people came into contact with. I’m confident to say we could avoid more deaths with more strict measures put into place.
And you’re right that no two states are the same, however there are similar states out there and we’re not to their measures yet.
I don’t even think New York is actually doing a shelter in place last I heard.
The problem is other states are using it incorrectly. Shelter in place means no leaving your house other than the grocery store.
The sticking point people seem to have is companies not allowing WFH when they should. As I’ve said I believe the governor thinks that anyone who can is. Make it clear that still isn’t the case and fight for that. We can’t and shouldn’t lock people in their homes.

The shelter in place order is not going to really work until all businesses, except grocery stores are shut down. We could still pay at the pump for gas.
Way to many businesses are considered "necessary" when they really are not, we have two hardware's stores in town, both are open. One is because the farmers get a lot of parts to fix their equipment out of there and they are getting ready for planting season, the other I am not sure why they are considered necessary but they are still open.
Keep the banks open, lobby closed.

My frustration is that is what a shelter in place is. If you are arguing for a shelter in place you are arguing for locking people inside. If you want to argue for shutting down non essential businesses then do so but that isn’t a shelter in place.
From reading a ton of the specifics of other states and how they’ve issued these orders, almost every one of them has not mandated you stay inside. They let you go out for essentials, do outdoor activities in small numbers, etc. Some states are calling it stay at home. Governor Reynolds can call it whatever she wants to try and diminish the stigma surrounding the phrasing.
Precisely. And from what I’ve heard and read, she’d defer to the DOHS for the list of essential businesses and start from there.
I don't have all the answers. That's what policy people are for. And sure enough, the medical experts and economists agree that measures like these are the best way to save additional lives and get everyone else's life back to normal as quickly as possible. I spent weeks wondering what Kim Reynolds knew that these people and her fellow governors did not, and now we know the answer to that question is: nothing.
The onus is not on me to prove that measures that virtually every expert and policy maker advocates for are the correct ones. The onus is on Reynolds, and you should you choose to defend her, to prove they are not.
Who all is mandating that people stay inside?
I think a full on lockdown is the mandate to stay inside. San Fran has it as 'stay inside as much as possible' but I'm not sure how much it's being enforced.
I saw where a NYC bartender got fined for breaking the quarantine rules...probably just being open.
Some states are issuing fines and potential jail time for not following these measures. I’m sure the jail time is for duplicate offenders or people that cause a disruption though.
