Help Me Understand Going For Two

I didn't mind it. I don't know if advanced stats backed the decision but the fact is that if Pettway hauls it in we're all on here calling CMC a genius. He trusted his playmakers to get it done and unfortunately it just didn't work out this time. Breaks of the game.

Kolar was wide open in the end zone, Pettway got mugged or it would have been an easy touchdown, I dont know what better plays they could have run.

Yep. One guy came sort of open and another got wide open. Purdy put the ball on the money. It was definitely PI but you can't expect that call to get made in that situation.

You could maybe make the case for a designed roll out or something to utilize Brock's mobility but the play that was called was good enough. It was a failure to execute.

Why shouldn’t you expect a PI there? It was clearly a penalty. I'm not a fan of replays or challenges. But if the officiating is going to continue to suck this bad, why not implement a challenge like the NFL? Just getting tired of missed calls and picked up flags costing us the opportunity to win games.

I hate there’s a different set of rules in the final seconds of a game, no matter the sport. So stupid.

Because you let your ******* nuts hang out like a man and take this ******* game from the goddamn sooners. That's why you go for 2.

I get that ISU was in control in the 2nd half, but college overtime takes things like momentum and field position and throws it in the trash and resets everything.

I loved the call. Go for the throat. You don't tip toe into the lions den. You grab your sword, your shield, kick the door door and ask where the son of a ***** is at!

you want a real nuts on the table call? You run the ******* speed option again.

throwing is too risky down there, I wish they’d let Brock have a run option.

PI never ever gets called in situations like that for whatever reason. Plus, you have to look at where we were/who we were playing. It’s stupid but it always happens, unless you are Oklahoma State in JTS 2 years ago which still pisses me off.

What really hurt us was the refs reviewing Charlie’s TD for lord knows what reason. You know Campbell had his play and the review gave OU time to collect themselves.

I'm surprised Oklahoma didn't do it once the review was over, but I think they would have called timeout if it went from touchdown straight to 2 point try.

I agree with going for 2, but there is zero reason ou should ever have been ahead by that much, the piss poor offense in the first half against one of the worst defenses is the country really put us in a hole. People act like ou has 5 stars everywhere, that ou defense is atrocious, and we did nothing for the first half against it.
It was a team effort to suck in the first half. The defense again absolutely buried the offense when they repeatedly had chances to make plays. Turn one of those dropped picks into 6 and that might have been enough to win the game.

We continually play with fire and get burned.

We would’ve gotten a delay of game penalty if we hadn’t been bailed out by the review. There was 4 seconds left on the play clock when it went to review and they were nowhere near ready.

We weren't in danger of getting a delay. The head official is standing with Purdy with 10 seconds on the play clock. Either more time would have been put on the clock or it was going to review.

I wasn’t able to watch a good chunk of the game, but thought they should play for OT after watching the 4th quarter. It sure looked like we were surging. It is not easy to score from the two.

We’ve lost 4 games by a total of 11 points. If Campbell stays, and he keeps getting and developing kids like Purdy and Hall, we just need to keep showing up every game of every year and some of these breaks (like going for 2 to win) will go our way.

Every critical play of Minnesota’s season seems to have gone their way (9-0), where we can’t get out of our own way sometimes and put the game in other’s hands (5-4).

A 9 win season isn’t out of the question yet at all with this team.

Right call to go for two, didn't like the play call at all though.
It wasn't the play call.….Brock Purdy couldn't see Charlie Kolar open in the end zone...I think Kolar's defender was the second guy who stripped the ball from Pettway......In a chaotic end to a game things happen....

ISU was manhandling Oklahoma in the 4th. I was yelling and unhappy before the snap. Why would you go for two and not just take the tie and use your momentum to try and win in overtime? I think Campbell is great, but this was a bad decision.

Your football opinions are classically awful

This is another awful take.

I hear you. But the PI challenge rule in the NFL has been a disaster. It didn't really fix anything. A call on the field rarely gets overturned and most coaches have just stopped wasting challenges on them. Anyway, the refs are going to swallow their whistle in that situation every time. It sucks and it's frustrating because I think without contact Pettway catches it cleanly and they win, but that's just the way these things go.

Go ahead and think that way, but Alabama would have gone for the extra point and trust his guys in overtime. It’s not that it’s the Ferentz mentality: ISU had the confidence and was playing much better than Oklahoma and the OU secondary was depleted. I think ISU would’ve won in OT over a beat up Oklahoma squad.

Iowa State isnt Alabama who has a talent advantage over 99.5% of teams in college football. I love Campbell for having the guts to go for it. You just cant go to OT against an offense like that and expect to come out with a victory.

Okay, dude. Our defense was good in the second half, stopping Oklahoma and they couldn’t stop us in the 4th quarter, but I’m the idiot thinking that you can win in overtime, right? We went for two and lost. This squad could’ve won in overtime.
