This is probably the best ranking to determine defenses. Takes into account the opponent's offenses.
And this is also considering that our Offense has put the D in a lot of tough situations. If we could run the ball more consistently the D numbers would be even better. I think this years defense is even underrated by a lot of Hawk fans.
RB is not the problem. O-line has not been stellar. Wirfs has been good but the other positions have been spotty. A lot of Hawkeye fans wouldn't argue with that. Fortunately the Defense has been Elite.
Good players don't always play great. A. Jackson is a good player but hasn't played great yet. Purdy is a good QB but didn't play great during the 4th quarter last week.
Purdy has put up elite numbers this year, your running game has not. Terrible comparison
So how many good OL do you have?
Not comparing Purdy to our running game. Just pointing out that good teams and players don't always play great. Our defense is putting up Elite numbers.
The Iowa fans on here trying to draw equivalencies between ISU’s offensive numbers being inflated by playing against bad defenses to Iowa’s defensive numbers boosted by bad offenses are either trolling or just stupid. The “bad” defenses ISU is playing are rated like in the 60s or 70s, the offenses that Iowa is playing are rated in 120s. That is an enormous difference.
Wirfs, Jackson, Kallenberger, Banwart(injured), Linderbaum is good needs more consistency but is a FR. 4 or 5 of those guys will play on Sundays. Several more good freshman that just aren't quite there yet.
How do you have 4 or 5 good OL and good RBs but you guys are one of the worst rushing teams in your conference that is a conference full of putrid offenses?

Banwart is injured. Jackson was injured. Kallenberger and Linderbaum are both good but young and inconsistent. Wirfs has been the only o lineman that has consistently been on the field and played well every game.
Gotcha. So your lack of a rushing game is due to lack of depth on the OL. Crazy that used to be a strength under Ferentz but he's had a ton of recruiting misses lately
because you’re as matty Heiden. And that’s saying a lot. You shouldn’t feel good about that.
I'm not even trolling. I thought it was a combo of the OL and RBs but it appears it's just a straight OL issue
