I have 2 tickets to this saturdays game for $40 each, 4 years ago those would be gone in an hour or so, no one has even tried to negotiate.

Excitement is a lot lower now than it was 3 weeks ago so I’m not too surprised.
That isnt a shot, it is a fact 5 years ago I could sell tickets to games in a matter of hours for triple face value in my section. Now I cant sell them for face value, how do you explain?
People were more emotionally attached to Georges and Melvin and Deandre and Monte and others than anyone on this squad. At least for me.
1. 5 years ago was part of the Rhoads decline where ISU went 8-28 over 3 years so people were likely more excited for basketball
2. Can’t find historical weather data but i can’t imagine winter of 2013-14 was as bad as this year’s has been, impacting many fans ability to even get to the game safely.

Also, Hoiberg was after the dark days of McD. Prohm is following a successful run. We have seen this before; and right now, we have hit a rough spot where people were thinking conference title and now we are just waiting to see where in the NCAA we land.
There are so many variables involved with this.
Who was the opponent?
What time was the game?
What day was the game?
What was the weather like?
People tend to exaggerate or don't remember what happened 5 years ago.
But, yes, you took a shot at Prohm.
Maybe it was your lucky year. I remember Melvin's 48 point effort against TCU........there were plenty of empty seats at that game and many others. I guess if your seats are where you say....and you tripled the value...good for you.
So many people hold on to tickets that they don’t intend on using. I have no sympathy for you, I can’t even get 4 together in te corners and I’m at every game.
Here are the most relevant factors:
1. Still recovering from being down last year.
2. Bad weather (or fear of bad weather).
3. Losing too many games at Hilton.
4. Posting in places flooded with tickets.

Im looking for 3 tickets for Saturday. One thing I can tell you is that if you're selling balcony seats, and you don't take the time to tell me what row the seats are in, Im not even going to waste my time.
Second, there is no way in hell I would pay $40 to sit in row 14 when you spent $200 the whole season.

So people should give up their season tickets because they cant go to every single game? I go to about 85-90% of the games
I have four tickets. Used all fours, given away tickets, sold on Stubhub, sold on Craigslist. Every combination. No complaints

You buy seasons tickets to support the programs, not to make a dime. Selling $199 balcony tickets for $40 is laughable. You should be thankful Jamie Pollard even offers these type of deals for football/basketball when a lot of people are paying way more than that and making donations to the University.
And they love Fred Hoiberg, it shouldn't be a knock on Prohm (or any commentary on his coaching)that the program had a little more excitement around it with a home town kid who also happened to be one of the most popular/best players to every wear an ISU uniform was coaching.
We could have Coach K running the program it still wouldn't match the energy and excitement of the Hoiberg years. I think we'll top the success we had under Fred but his coaching tenure was one of the most exciting times I can remember to be a Cyclone fan, for sure in the nearly 4 decades of my fandom.
Here is my theory. After the McD era, we were so hungry for any type of success. Hoiberg helped with that. The general public as well as students get used to and spoiled by the success to the point that you can tell a significant difference from attendance when we are ranked and when we aren't. This was the case in past years as it is this year. We have a good team on the court, but because they aren't ranked in the top 15, students and the general public aren't as excited to go to games.
I'd agree with this. Part of it was CFH's fame, but also the program was on the rise, personalities like Royce and Niang, etc.
There was a lot of building momentum. That momentum has peaked and coasting a bit. Happens to all programs - sustaining excitement at a high level is a lot harder than building up from a lower one.
I've given tickets away to friends plenty of times just so there would be butts in my seats. However, if the demand is there and somebody will give me 50 per to sit in the 14th row of the balcony, I'm taking that money and not feeling bad about it. I rarely miss a game anyways so it's not like I'm buying season tickets and selling the majority of them. Just don't agree with your mentality that I should be so grateful that I wouldn't dare make money when I can. No argument about how good of a deal we're getting on season tickets. I point that out every time I hear somebody complain about the price going up slightly every now and then.
