Wigginton news (until he is back) thread

What kind of message does it send to a guy (and the rest of the team) when you base your punishments on your immediate needs? How about the guy that might get a chance to play, or get more minutes, while that other guy is out? Sure, those guys were gassed, and are going to be gassed in Hawaii, but it's nothing that other players haven't gone through before. Didn't the Fizer/Tinsley team go basically 6 deep?
Why are you making it either/or?
Having flexibility in disciplinary actions to minimize detrimental impacts to the team's success isn't mutually exclusive with upholding ethos, and finding the overlap is one of the primary skills of P6 coaches.

Speaking of no depth and about not putting anyone above the team, including Prohm, hopefully playing Babb so many minutes now won't cost him more PT later.

Geez guys we are 3-0 so far and some people already going off the deep end with some petty stuff. Yes it sucks we are short handed but let's also give Prohm some credit, we have 4 good freshmen he brought in and 2 talented transfers and all 6 are getting some very meaningful minutes right now that will only make this team better once we are back to 100%. I was thinking last night, who goes to the bench other than Haliburton when Lard and Wigginton are back because Babb, Shayok, THT, and Jacobson all have looked good so far. Shayok may very well be the best player on this team and lead us in scoring and that is no knock on Wiggington but Shayok just has more size and ways to create offense right now I think. My guess is either THT or Jacobson is the 6th man depending on the matchup because I can see how having Lard and Jacobson on the floor at the same time could really stretch the offense with Jacobson having 3 point range.

That being said can you imagine just how bad of shape we'd be in last season with those 4 guys out right now? This team is going to have some crazy good depth and create matchup nightmares if it is 100% when Big 12 play starts. We may take a few lumps before then like probably in Maui but let's say everyone but Young is back by 12/3 I'd sure hope we'd still beat Omaha and NDSU before then with this current bunch. Arizona will be tough but if we lose that game we likely play Illinois who is beatable.

Let's just chill out a bit, we knew Lard was going to have to sit a bit for his problems earlier this year considering he had to go to a rehab facility, and you have to trust that Prohm's punishment for Talley probably is deserving too considering he also started last year suspended. I've been watching their body language on the bench and both seem to be into the games and being good teammates so hopefully they come back hungry to play and ready to contribute. If this team can stay healthy and everyone has bought into the team we are going to be in for a treat this season I think and all this petty crap people are whining about right now with the suspensions will be long forgotten.

Ha Ha

I am wondering about the group on here complaining about Prohm's punishment for breaking / enforcement of team rules and about the inability to change such due to changed circumstances.

How many of you are: (1) coaches; (2) managers of a team / employees at work; and (3) parents?

If you are any of these three (at least good ones), I suspect you would not have the position that you do.

If rules are not enforced, they are not followed. If your leader can't enforce the rules, your leader can't lead. If your leader can't lead and your followers don't follow, your team / work group / family is lost. Any short term gains from ignoring this are nullified by the long term implications of doing so.

Frankly, a lot of today's societal problems result from the mindset that punishment is to be avoided if at all possible.

I also think a LOT of the parents of the recruits Prohm signs are drawn to the fact that he is a great man and leader (in part because he cares, but equally important because he sets clear rules and enforces them). Don't underestimate how well this plays to the parents of the types of recruits Prohm targets.

Just two cents from someone that answers yes to all three of my questions above.

Any updated news on Wigginton?
Prohm said in the post game press conference that he would be lying if he said he knew when Wigginton would be back. He later said mid December, but like he said, he would be just throwing something out there. I wouldn’t expect him back until right before conference play.

That sucks. Did they ever say what the issue exactly was?

I expect them to be very cautious with the injury and not rush him back. Maybe he's a quick healer and back sooner than I expect, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if he's back before Christmas.

Yes, he also added that Young and him were looking at missing the Iowa game and when they got back they'll need some practice time to get back in shape. I think Prohm will be pretty cautious (especially with the early play of the Frosh) so I hope both get in a couple of non-con games to get in the flow before the B12 starts.

*Also can we change the Thread title to expected back in Dec instead of "out indefinitely". I had a spit take thinking something bad was reported after Prohm's post game presser.

Young posted somewhere that he was working out a bit this weekend. So that’s a good sign.

Wiggington needs to come back a couple games before Big 12 play to get into the flow with this team and for Prohm to get the roster figured out with all the additions. Prohm is going to have a lot of weapons, and they have practiced together already, but they need a few games to gel before B12 play.

To follow up, I think Young, Lard, and Talley need more time than Wiggington as they (players and Prohm) will need more time to figure out their roles and how they fit more than Wiggington. Wiggington is literally going to replace Haliburton on the starting roster (sucks to think about Haliburton getting bumped first guard/SF off of the bench)

Looking at the schedule, ISU could at most have one more loss going into conference play (Iowa) which Wiggs isn't in anyway, and the rest are very winnable without Wiggs, so let him heal and get in shape for the most important part of the season.

Exactly my thoughts. We dont need a Wesley Johnson repeat. Everyday I wake up and thank god that McDermott isnt our coach anymore.
