Kyle Kempt Bashing

Some posters here continue to bash Kyle Kempt. All he did today was threw over 300 + yard with 2 TD and no INT and completed 63% of his passes. He took over as the starting QB when this team desperately needed a QB and led his team to 8-5 record and a bowl win. Of course the naysayers will discredit his accomplishment and give all the credit to defense and receivers. He led this team to 3 wins against ranked teams and threw over 300 yard in a bowl game. How many ISU QBs have accomplish that in their career? All QBs have strengths and weaknesses. Kempt does not have a strong arm but he is a great leader and game manager. He has a better QB rating than Park and Norland but some posters here continue to bash him. Our coaching staffs believe Kempt gives a best chance to win games. Norland would have started if the coaching staffs thought he was the best option at QB. To some of our football experts on this board, Kempt sucks and it is better for this team to not have him next year even though he has done things that no other ISU QB has ever done before.

Who is this Norland guy you are referencing?

We were a few TDs which ended up being Field goals, close to the end zone from having a double digit winning season and playing in the BIG 12 championship game.

One of the best seasons and also one of the most brutal nut kick seasons.

Even the coach addressed this on multiple occasions on how this season has aged him, because he knew we were so close to having one of the greatest seasons in Iowa state history, a few plays kept us from the big 12 championship.

Kyle with all his limitations will be immortalized in ISU history, as the QB who beat OU on the road and then backed it by knocking out another Top 5 team and finished the season with an amazing bowl win. He was the man at the right time, I don't think Park would have done this.....

Not the pretties ball but a bit of a 'gamer' in making some great plays when needed...he's not one of the greatest players at ISU ever but his season at the helm is legendary in what ISU accomplished this season.

The name 'Marvin' is up there with the Nebraska game...OU? TCU? Bowl win? Same season? Sign me up any time.

His demeanor was great too...never saw him talking to teammates on the bench, and then pause to make sure the camera was on him.

Let's take this thread a different way. If Kyle Kempt gets a sixth year, do we find a scholarship for him? How do we do it...save one...wait for someone to be dismissed?

Last... my thanks to this team, and especially the seniors, for a great season. I enjoyed every minute and am glad I was allowed along on the ride.

Kempt has a crappy arm, but he is really, I MEAN, REALLLY good at reading defenses and hitting open receivers. It's impressive really.

And yes, ISU has unbelievable receivers.

Even some of Ferguson's throws into the wind wobbled on him. I would not say Kempt has a strong arm, but it isn't a crappy one either.

And the tipped pass that Lazard caught for a TD was almost caught by Murdock. It wasn't nearly as bad of a throw as Tubberville and Patrick made it out to be.

Here's what Kempt does 10x better than Park: gives his receivers a chance to make a play. How many times did Park overthrow a receiver or throw it out of bounds? A receiver can't make a play on a ball that sails 2 yards over their head. Nearly all of Kempt's throws are on the money or in an area where the receiver can come back and catch the ball. You think those are all luck?

If I hear "Kempt should have thrown it away" one more time...

I mean, he definitely shouldn’t have made the throw he did, but it worked out. Pure luck realistically. We’d freak out if it happened against ISU.

Kempt throws one of the most ugly, effective balls of all time. And he has had a ridiculously good receiver corps. Memphis left our WRs one on one all day and dared Kempt to beat them deep.

Our scheme benefits a smart QB more so than a gifted QB.
Having guys like Lazard and Butler always gives you an out w/ the 50/50 ball even if they're doubled. This forces defenses to single the traditional sized guys like Murdock, Epps and Eaton. Think you got it covered and you have Ryen and Jones catching in space w/ Lazard and Butler clearing the way.

Kempts arm strength seemed shaky today with the way the wind was blowing, but I thought he played a good game. Sure he missed some throws, but there were some very good throws today as well.

312 yards, 2 TD, 1 bowl win.

Pretty sure this is a relative of Kyle's. Great kid. At least know the name of the other guy you're bashing though.

Kempt is way better under pressure than Park was. That is for sure. I doubt it happens, but really hope we get Kempt next year. Would love seeing him and Noland both taking snaps.

Ive mentioned my thoughts on Kempt before, not a huge fan but thankful for all he has done. Im glad he started today even though I think Zeb is the future. He played great for most of the game but struggled a lot as well. Those two endzone "lofts" in the 3rd quarter were downright scary (both should have been intercepted). Half of Lazards catches today were ones where he had to come running backwards 5-10 yards to make a miraculous circus catch because the ball was so under thrown. I know the wind affected some of them but this has been a problem all year.

There were about 4 dropped INTs today, and one that was caught but somehow negated by an iffy penalty (the actual TD lazard caught was like a pass from the game 500).

Overall my memories of Kempt will be about how steady and calm he was. Seems to be the story of Kempt this year, so many near INTs but he somehow snuck around them to have a great season statically. Im so happy he had a great game today but its time to move on next season IMO.
