If it's determined that Alexander assaulted two guys, but CMC doesn't punish him because he feels he's a good person with good character.... that won't fly. Every coach would do that with every player that got in trouble if it was that easy.

I'm not saying character is the only factor. Plus it could work for or against him. We don't know what happened. Alexander may have been 100% at fault, but lets not execute him before the facts are known. CMC knows Alexander and CMC knows Alexander's side of the story. He's is in a much better position to judge than you or me.

Because if it's just a couple guys taunting or yelling stuff at Alexander, then his response to that is TOTALLY unacceptable. Even if it went as far as racial slurs. You simply cannot hit +someone.... period. That is assault.

Now, if he felt his safety was in jeopardy, then that's self defense and totally different.

As Donovan and NWB just learned on their leadership trip.... E+R=O.... where E is the event that happens to you, R is how you respond to that event, and O is the outcome. As NWB correctly pointed out... "no matter what event is thrown at you, it is your response to that situation that determines the outcome."

But if the "taunting or yelling stuff" included threats of violence and there was reason to believe that they had intent to carry them out (like raising a fist, for example), that is assault as well.

Please don't take this as a justification for anything, just adding information to your scenario.

Agreed. Threats of violence or even gestures can be physically imposing depending on the context. I have no idea what happened, but the claims of being deafened temporarily in one ear screams of gator tears.

I expect him to not be with the team afterwards, but that is simply playing the odds.

My guess is it was a couple drunk Packers fans and obviously, Mackenro's bro Mackensie plays for the Vikings. They probably got to talking, both parties being drunk, and when the frat boys realized who he was, they probably started making jokes and talking crap about Mackenro's brother, a Viking. Mackenro, being intoxicated (probably) himself, was more irritable than normal, but put up with their chiding.

BUT-- when the conversation turned from harmless jabs to personal blows, Mackenro could take no more. The frat brothers start taking shots at Mackenro, "Your brother has been in the NFL for a whole year now, what happened to you? You're still in college, and on your 3rd one no less. What gives? Not good enough to make the league? You not as good as your brother?"

Mackenroe couldn't take it, as this has been his biggest insecurity for years now. Buttons were pushed. He reacted.
