My tailgating screwup or not?

laying around, or in a cooler, sitting in the back of a truck? Seems like those are very different scenarios where each scenario is equally illegal.

Different scenarios with the same allure to the delinquent college kid. Pretty sure the sight of the cooler implies the possibility of alcohol within, so just as obvious as if it were sitting out.

As we finished up pregame tailgating on Saturday and prepared to enter Jack Trice, I decided to not lock up my cooler in the car. Instead, I left it in the tailgating tent, towards the back where it wasn't very visible.

I came out at halftime to enjoy a couple cold ones, and found that my 16 remaining bottles of beer were gone, except for one untouched Michelob Golden Draft Light lying on the bed of ice as a kind of offering.

My question: Was I naive in assuming that other thirsty tailgaters wouldn't immediately sprint to my cooler as soon as I was out of sight?

The previous game (Kansas) we had a variety of things stolen during the evening. A neighbor's cooler was taken and all of our beer in our cooler was stolen. Next time I'm putting an angry rabid raccoon inside the cooler.

If it was Bush Light my son and his friends are pretty damn fast at shot gunning beers. JK.

We always put the liquor and beer away. My wife fell asleep in our canopy one game and we left her there just put the sides up and anchored the sides down. We came back and she was still there.

Try hanging a "Free" sign on her next time.

I think this would be the case around non-collegians, too. If there were vets around, that booze is gone, or probably just anyone that's thirsty for beer.

Was that your cooler. Thank you! I was REALLY thirsty and they looked lonely. They were calling to me. I didn't realize they were waiting for you. sorry about that. On the good side, they were really tasty and hit the spot. thanks!!

JK - sorry you lost your stuff. Crappy thing to have happen on an otherwise great afternoon. Haven't ever had a problem, but usually put all of our food away before we go in. Of course our casey's pizza and pepsi probably isn't as valuable as what you had.

I knew some Nebraska fans that tailgated at one of the last ISU/NU games in Ames that had their cooler stolen. They were convinced they knew which nearby tailgaters stole it so they took an ISU chair from that tailgate. So now a NU fan has an ISU chair. Brilliant.
