Marial Shayok Commits to ISU

Is this for real?..... I mean, top 10? I'm pretty sure that Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, KU, Arizona, MichSt, Villanova, UCLA, NCar, Baylor, West Virginia, Cincy, Florida, Gonzaga,... just to name a few, aren't losing their basketball programs in 2018.

You act like we haven't done it before. 1999-2001 come to mind, not to mention we moonlighted around the top 10 the last few years. So yeah - this is for real. If we want the Des Moines-KC-Minneapolis tourney path, we're probably going to have to be top 10.

I'm going to assume he can play better D than DJ and NWB given he was at Virginia??

Next season will give Shayok a shot to get in the good graces of Iowa State fans. It was a shot by Shayok that drew a controversial fourth foul call on Georges Niang during the second half of Iowa State’s loss in the Sweet 16. Niang went to the bench and Virginia’s lead blossomed into a bigger advantage. Shayok remembered the disgust of Iowa State fans. He maintains it was a foul on Niang.

“I don’t airball for no reason,” Shayok said. “I thought he got me on the wrist a little bit. The other fouls they called on him were debatable, but that one was definitely a foul, I think.”

Does anyone have video of this so I can call Shayok a liar?

I love Jackson's ability to put up 25 on any given night, but replacing him with a versatile, 23-year-old, 6'6" wing with 3 years of experience in one of the best programs in the country is exciting. We're going to be very athletic next season.

When's the last time we had a real 3 out there, not just another 6'4ish shooting guard?
BDJ was probably the last real starter we had that played a true 3, but he was inconsistent. Lewis might get there in a year or two, but Shayok should provide a dimension we haven't had in a while.
