Would you take Fred back someday?

Fred leaves for the Bulls, makes a ton of cash, scratches his NBA itch but still feels he has unfinished business at ISU. Fives years from now at age 48 he wants to come back to ISU. Thoughts? Would Cyclone Nation welcome him back with open arms?

Probably.

Look at how Louisville welcomed Bobby Petrino back with open arms. His situation was a lot worse.

I hope not because that will mean both ISU and Hoiberg were not successful. I am hoping we are successful enough that there is no opening at ISU for years and years and years.

Of course we would. I think JP (or the AD at the time) would just have to make sure his NBA itch was fully scratched at that point.

Why the **** would that matter? If he wanted to return, even for another 5 year stretch only, who in their right mind would say "yes, but only if you promise to not leave us for the NBA again!" I'd let him come back, build us up and enjoy another run of success. If he leaves for the NBA again 5 years later, who ******* cares, we enjoyed another huge run of success and would be set up well for future success by his next coach.

Welcome to ISU, where we can't fathom anyone wanting anything different than what our school has to offer.

Sure. But since he is so desperate to leave that he even interviewed with Orlando, he will never come back.

Unless we hire Horny and he has success for 5 years, then goes back to the NBA for a great offer. At which point, Fred finishes his contract with the Bulls, then returns home to finish his coaching career at ISU.

How's that for unbridled optimism?

yes, yes, and yes. Fred is the best thing that happened to ISU sports in a long time.
