Pre-Memorial Day Hoiberg NBA Update

I'm impressed. As much as hoops has tried to derail this thread (valiant effort) he has failed and people actually seem to be having a meaningful discussion. I doubt it will last, but impressed I am.

I have an incredibly stupid question. Is there any way he could help the program as an nba coach? Not talking about breaking rules. Just curious if there are any benefits. Positive side. Not that he owes us any more.

Many ways but he wouldn't do it.

Either tell top HSers to go to ISU or win the championship and return to USA and get all the top recruits. The first wouldn't happen and the second is wishful thinking.

Just read through this whole thread and I wish I didn't.. holy cow some of you are unbelievable. And I prefer college basketball over NBA because I have more of a tie to it than I do to the NBA, but the NBA's product is sooooo much better than college. Last night's game was great. Actually a lot of the playoffs has been great so far. As someone earlier in the thread said, some people are very extremely ignorant just because they don't like something. But anyway, I still think Fred is gone this year when it's all done. Whatever happens, I'd just like it to get over with

If u like watching people play no defense, then yeah its for u.

Lol most overused saying ever by NBA haters.. yeah there's times when someone might not give it everything they've got but you do realize these are the most talented players in the world right? Quit sounding dumb

Than why do you like Iowa State??

Zing!

And why do so many people insist on using the word 'product' to describe a league's game anymore? Are we all a bunch of salesman/marketers now or what?

There's a difference between feeling stronger ties to college and being able to admit that the NBA is a better game. I don't get why people are so headstrong against the NBA. It's kinda funny that people who love college and against the NBA put part of the blame on "Lebron getting calls" as if teams in college don't seem to get favorable calls either. And the "no defense" thing is misconstrued. Sure, there are lots of examples over an 82 game season but there's a fair amount of teams that aren't very good defensively either, the Cyclones included so that shouldn't be a reason to hate the NBA.

If he is successful in NBA, think that will inherently help our program. Don't know what NCAA rules are, but a NBA coach attending ISU games or practices might help recruiting??? Camps??? Obviously, all would have to be cleared through the NCAA! Maybe CW knows the rules regarding this?

Anyone thing Jeremy started this thread because he was jealous of the size of Chris's thread?

I think Chris told Jeremy to post this to save Chris from another round of being accused of trying to "sell ads".

Watch Jeremy break everything now. :jimlad:

You just said what I said in a much better way so thank you

You are right on target. The NBA has an unbelievable collection of athletic talent." No defense" is always the default argument which is complete BS. The intensity of the NBA playoffs has always been great with plenty of defense to try and stop the greatest basketball players in the world. If posters are from areas without an NBA team, they most likely just do not have an interest and that is understandable, but do not underestimate the NBA. I think that is what drives Fred. Like it or not, the NBA is the top of his professional career and he aspires to get there. I really respect him for that alone.

The best basketball players play in the NBA. It is the pinnacle of basketball so its the pinnacle of coaching.

The CEO of Coca-Cola might not be more respected than the CEO of some tiny company, but its still a more impressive position.

Plus, the pinnacle is all relative. If you want to teach young players and mold them, the college is the pinnacle. If you love the in game strategy, then the NBA gives you way more of that that college basketball.

Pro coaches are not that important with Kobe and LeBron and Tim. They just are not. They are only coaches. I believe coaches are more important in college when the kids are developing.

I'm gonna go out on a ledge and say you haven't watched any of the NBA playoffs.

If you did and still think college bball is better - I feel sorry for you.

More passionate fans, yes. Less corporate, yes. Better basketball though - the college game is horrible at times.

The NBA can be horrible also. Have you watched some of the playoff games?

I beg to differ. Been to Warriors games last year and this year. Mark Jackson was good, but Kerr has taken it to a new level. Went to Game 2 last nite, that was a crazy game!
