Pre-Memorial Day Hoiberg NBA Update

I hate the 1 more year thing too...until we win the National Title next year and Fred and his kids are on the ladder cutting down the nets with Georges, Monte, and the crew. Then I will cheer like a crazed lunatic and forget this ever happened.
Just in time for the next year when Hoiberg, Niang, Naz, and Monte (draft) leaves and we don't even make the tournament the following year..just like UCONN this year.

I disagree with the comment that there is not much Fred can do. Fred could give the ultimatum to the Bulls that he needs an offer in a designated amount of time. He does have the ability to put some pressure on them if they truly want him.

Additionally, Fred could make a public appearance and simply say he won't talk about any jobs that are not open. It's not as if coaches have not done similar things in the past. I think the fact he has basically gone into hiding and avoiding the media at all costs is what is frustrating to us fans.

I agree with your first point. Who's to say that hasn't already happened though? We don't know, that's not an ultimatum you would give in public.

As to the second point, I'm not sure that does much good. Making a comment to say "no comment" can frustrate people just as much.

I'll say the same thing I said with the whole Cael thing.

If he wants to be here, great. If he doesn't want to be here fine, move on, no ill will. I only want people that want to be here.
Perfectly said. I would love Hoiberg to return, but not if only to buy a year before he can get the NBA job he wants

Yes, he was not happy when he found out he passed on the opportunity to coach LBJ

Interesting. Definitely understandable. The opportunity to coach a player like that doesn't come around too often.

I'm leaning to the "he's leaving anyway, may as well be now" crowd. I suppose the caveat being - it depends on who we could get to replace him. Yes - he'd have the best shot to win with the team next year. But if we were able to get a top flight coach in here, I'd think they could do well in their own right with that talent available. And then give that coach a chance to compete before we face the depleted shelves of 2016-17. Perhaps even a chance to retain Monte. Some success to recruit with as opposed to new coach, no players after next year.

But I'm more curious as to this "rift". Where's that coming from and based on what?

I really, really don't understand those saying they wish Fred would just leave this year. ISU has their best shot at a FF/NC next year and there is no one else I'd rather have coaching than Fred. Also, there are no guarantees. Who is to say the TWolves job isn't as attractive next summer?

They will have 3 #1 draft picks on their team at that time plus any other roster moves they make between now and then. His history with the organization speaks for itself as well so I would say the job will always be attractive to him.

Those saying Fred should leave now are looking into the future and how CFH coming back for a year hurts recruiting quite a bit for the next couple years and doesn't set up the next coach to have as much success right off the bat.

Here’s where we stand going in to the holiday weekend (check my posts over the past week for more depth on some of these items) – and note that all of this is very fluid, continues to change, but is based on multiple sources…
2. What I posted early yesterday with regards to a possible reversal of momentum continues to hold true. 9. Much has been suggested about a possible rift between Fred and Jamie, but that is being overblown by some. They have disagreements and different styles...
11. Some are leery of a strong push for Hornacek due to past tension between him and other players, coaches, donors. This would be interesting to see unfold moving forward.

Great update.

Point #2 tells us there is hope, even if it's for a year. Point #9 was the most surprising and disappointing. As long as Fred is staying within the rules, what the hell does Jamie know about running the BB program? Point #11 was news, what tension are we talking about?

Yeah I'm a Cavs fan(and still was when LBJ was with Miami)... I don't want Fred to leave ISU ever obviously, but I would have loved to see him in Cleveland if he HAS to leave.

But Cleveland actually hired the coach I wanted, so it works out fine. Fred actually was in Cleveland for a little bit during the summer seeing how Blatt was running practice.

my biggest issue is how I feel misled. For months we heard all this speculation of Fred to the Bulls/NBA, and we were told, "don't worry, Fred's name gets mentioned with any NBA opening, and it is good for recruiting."

Now, it seems, these rumors were true, and it is hurting recruiting, and if it pans out that Fred foes to the NBA and was really playing us, then, I feel I have a right to be ******.

I hate when someone tries to chime in that we all knew from day 1 what we were getting and he said the NBA was his dream jobs. That's a load of crap.

We bought in because we thought we finally had an ISU guy who if successful was so much an ISU guy (that he was already called the Mayor of said city) that he would be here for the long term.

Blatt or Lue?

Who said not to worry? Fred? JP?

There's benefits to both scenarios. Fred stays, it increases our chance of greatness next year.

Fred leaves, it makes the new coaches job a lot easier because he already has a top team, and can carry that momentum into recruiting and staying good assuming we don't flop next year.

If they lose Fred bc of money, that would be embarrassing.

the worst part is this doesn't seem like it's going to end soon

I'm starting to wish there was just simply some sort of Ponzi scheme, money laundering, pay for play, etc. so it would be done, and we'd know exactly why he's leaving.

If Fred don't like JP's "style" and taking suggestions from his boss, I can guarantee you he will hate working for the Bulls....nothing worse than working for a spoiled platinum spooned child...

If Fred leaves, whether this year or next, I won't begrudge him for following him for following his professional dreams.

However, as others have written, this whole process is not good for Iowa State. When he does leave (and I think it's a question of when at this point, not if) I'd be totally okay with the local sports media asking some pretty tough and uncomfortable questions of him at the press conference.

What in the F are you talking about? This is sarcasm right?
Have you completely forgotten where we were when Fred took over?

I have one of these for sale if it is that tough for you to recognize sarcasm.

That's a good mindset. He's a human and can do as he pleases. Me as a Cyclone fan can be upset and see how this hurts ISU's basketball program. We will be devastated in 2016-17. Back to be the cellar dwellar and whipping boy of KU.

There's quite a few sunshine and rainbow pumpers on here that are more fans of Fred than ISU.
