Pre-Memorial Day Hoiberg NBA Update

I think a kick starter fan fund (or whatever site like that) page would be pretty damn successful here. Not that we could match NBA money (or that money would be the deciding factor). Not sure if anyone has ever tried that.

I really don't think its about the money...I think its all about Fred's Career and where he wants to go with it...aka the NBA.

If that's the case then its just a matter of time before Fred leaves Iowa State

Have a great Memorial Day .............

Exactly. I can't believe some people on here are questioning Fred's love of ISU. I think it's pretty obvious this is not going down how he wants it but at this point, there isn't much he can do. Aside from coming out and making a statement, which could turn out to be a lie. He won't do that.

If you don't think Fred loves ISU, just look at last season. It tore him up. The dude looked emaciated towards the end of the year.

I can believe it. People tend towards the dumber end of the spectrum. Get a keyboard and watch the crazy fly.

College basketball is a business. Almost every job is a stepping stone and not a final destination.

No reason to be disappointed if our coach proves himself at State and then moves on. It's life. Just the way it goes.

I hate the one year more thing especially if the likelihood of 2 or 3 more is remote. Leaving now gives a new coach a full cupboard. Staying one year and bailing runs the car out of gas for the new coach unless we do a Final Four or something special.

Which was probably his plan, but it hasn't panned out as anticipated. I'm sure the entire process is discouraging him. Not a good time for him to be stressed.

There is one man currently living that I BELIEVE could take us to the Final Four next season. If, by some miracle, we had Fred here for one more year I'd be willing to role the dice.

My conspiracy theory for the day:

Fred had made a decision that he was going to the Bulls if the position was open and communicated this to the front office. Bulls' front office thought "Great, we have our guy, now we can take our time extracting value for Thibs". Fred didn't like waiting around and being used as leverage for the Bulls to get value for Thibs and hurting ISU in the process, so he stated saying he was considering other offers, including staying at ISU for another year and going to Minnesota the following season. I think this might be a rumor from the Hoiberg camp/his agent to try and force the front office of the Bulls to get a move on and start making things official.

I think Hoiberg is likely still going to the Bulls, but is using all of this noise as leverage to get the Bulls to feel they have to hurry before they lose him, thus forcing them to move/fire Thibs already and actually offer him a contract. Just my $.02

I wish the Thibs situation would just get resolved so things could start moving one way or another.

At this point it doesn't matter. I think in the last few days it's changed from Chicago to Minnesota. I'm glad because right now the Bulls are 1 giant cluster**** that isn't worth the money.

I want Fred to stay even if it is just one more year. I'd take that.

But it it is ******** that he can't quit before the Bulls job is open. He could quit. He has enough money and the worst that can happen is he takes a year off.

I disagree with the comment that there is not much Fred can do. Fred could give the ultimatum to the Bulls that he needs an offer in a designated amount of time. He does have the ability to put some pressure on them if they truly want him.

Additionally, Fred could make a public appearance and simply say he won't talk about any jobs that are not open. It's not as if coaches have not done similar things in the past. I think the fact he has basically gone into hiding and avoiding the media at all costs is what is frustrating to us fans.

Totally agree. I am sure he did not anticipate the Thibs situation taking this long and these new rumors are simply a result of that. I think the rumor of him staying at ISU for another year is probably hurting his rep among the fanbase though.

I'll say the same thing I said with the whole Cael thing.

If he wants to be here, great. If he doesn't want to be here fine, move on, no ill will. I only want people that want to be here.

Put me in the camp that blames the Bulls the most. I wish they would commit to Thibs or fire him. That will get this whole thing moving one way or the other. I think Fred is interested but none of these coaching positions are even open right now.

If Fred is not coaching ISU next season what percentage of games will the TV announcers say the name Fred Hoiberg and mayor?

Not much of a poster, but I have been following closely and haven't seen this said yet:

If Fred is about to become the head coach of the Chicago Bulls it is very like he actually WANTS Chicago to do everything they can to trade Thibs for a 1st round pick. He wants the team he is coaching to have as much talent as possible. He might be just fine with them taking their time.

I hate the 1 more year thing too...until we win the National Title next year and Fred and his kids are on the ladder cutting down the nets with Georges, Monte, and the crew. Then I will cheer like a crazed lunatic and forget this ever happened.

Not to totally go off the rails...but...Did we make a big enough commitment to the wrestling program for Cael to stay? I think in retrospect we might've been able to keep Cael. I think it's apples & oranges.
