They will be breaking in a new OL coach against us as their long time guy just took head job at Ankeny

Oh good. Cuz it would have been embarrassing to get beat by a high school coach...

Just a few head jobs probably. Probably a couple in Eastern IA and just a handful in Central IA. Valley, Waukee, Dowling, Ankeny's. But even then it would have to be a perfect situation and I think this probably was for him. Pay is probably a small step down (Says he made 77k at UNI) but it will be a lot less time spent in the offseason on the road and he is coaching with his son now. I know of several HS coaches who turned down jobs as position coaches at UNI. First of all, it doesn't pay that well for the time put in. Second, No time on the road both during season and out of season

99% of the reason he chose to do this is because it allows him to Coach with his son. He is a former Urbandale graduate and will get to Coach against his old high school. He'll also be coaching in one of the toughest districts in the state. He wasn't the only college coach to apply fwiw.

His pay will be about the same when you consider that he'll earn a salary as a PE teacher for one of the highest paying school districts in the state along with that his coaching contract will probably pay 10k. Money well earned considering he won't have to live life on the recruiting road during the off season. His only job will be to keep kids from moving to the North side like so many have the last couple years.

So a high school head coach job is considered a step up from a position coach at UNI?

I'd assume it is more of a career change. High school head coach is generally a terminal job. Position coach at an FCS school is a stepping stone job. Maybe they wanted out of the 24/7 college coaching lifestyle but still wanted to coach football.

Last comment is interesting because I've heard the exact opposite thing living on the north side. I've only got daughters and the oldest one is in 3rd grade so I have no specific numbers or anything, just what I hear at sportspage.

There are many issues besides money and I am guessing lifestyle issues have a lot to do with it.

One of the finalists for the Ankeny job was Don Knock
Wow, what ever happened to ol' Don? I remember when he was running the show at Kennedy and made them into a perennial contender. Didn't he take a spot on Mac's staff for a while, too?

You've heard that people are moving to the south side for sports? You could be right but I know for a fact that's not the case with football and I don't follow any other sports. I wouldn't take anything you hear at a bar too seriously. People in this town talk whether what their saying is true or not. It shouldn't be a North vs. South thing, both schools have tremendous qualities about them.

Nice to know the UNI FB coaches are being paid 1/2 to 1/3 as much as ours to kick our ***.

Yes for football. Something about a few of the top athletes in the '17 class that were at Cent as frosh aren't there anymore. I know one was Douglas's kid (Who by the way after he left ISU for Pitt I cant find where he is right now) and the other two it was said were now on the south side.
Both schools may have tremendous qualities but I think Ankeny as a town has gone too far to try to keep this from becoming a rivalry when instead they should embrace the rivalry and have fun with it.

Plenty of high school coaches turn down advancement in college positions. **** Styles was sought after for years in the college scene here in Iowa. Fantastic OL coach. High School coaches arent all chumps.

I wouldn't say CR Kennedy has ever been a perenial power. Knock's teams were loaded with talent but they always seemed to choke in big games or ran into talent like IC City High, Bettendorf and the likes. Knock was a good 4A coach...but never won big at all at that level. He was also suspended at Kennedy for hitting a player.
