Thomas

He's getting to break in with a starting line-up of four beast mode guys, he couldn't ask to be in a better place.

+ Excellent rebounds. I never expected this from him, but he's gonna be around the ball.

+ lot of upside and right now MT looks ready to break out.

His handle on the ball and his foot speed are two things I didn't expect from this freshman. I thought that MM was going to have the higher upside, and MT is just the more capable freshman now. I'm starting to thing this kid has a lot of upside as well. He kind of reminds me of Shane Powers, but better.

I agree; it was a huge confidence booster when Fred had us inbound the ball to him in the last Minute. I felt more comfortable if he would have gone to the FT line.

Thomas had some clutch rebounds and shots for sure. He also made some freshman mistakes that could have cost the game at the end there.

This is type of game experience is why I wanted Thomas to be playing over Naz the entire non-conference. I could see his confidence build throughout the game, and at the end he responded with a dagger deep three, solid defense, and fought for some very importand 50/50balls late in the game. Was he perfect no, but he has proved to me that he belongs.

thomas has been wide open numerous times when our guys penetrate but he doesn't get the pass - we really haven't done much drive and kick, where thomas would get some great looks. given how well ejim, niang, and kane finish, i have no problem they're not looking to pass, but I bet thomas gets some better looks in the next few games.

and don't forget just thomas standing in the corner every time really opens up the floor

I think his best asset so far is his decision making. If we need to get the ball down to one of our bigs, I want Thomas making the pass. Nothing fancy, but always safe, and on the correct side.

Good observation. He does a lot of little things very well. He is strong with the ball.

One thing about Matt is that he has no obvious holes in his game, that can never improve. His D isn't that bad currently and will get better. He rebounds well. I think he can handle well enough and will continue to improve.

Obviously his offense will continue to expand.

I think Thomas has the best chance to become the Cyclone that Iowa and our conference foes swear over having to play again every year. In time.

I don't think Matt is scared to shoot at all. He just doesn't feel like he has the green light yet and as a Freshman that is understandable. He will continue to improve and be a real weapon by the end of the season. He and Naz will be throwing up daggers during conference play.

Someone said in a game thread earlier this year that he is so calm he is almost boring to watch. He did have 3 TOs last night (more than the first 3 games combined), but I think those may have all come in the first half. He wasn't credited with any assists, but I don't see how. It seemed like he had two long outlet passes and several post feeds that should have had assists.

Also, since this is a Thomas thread it needs to be repeated: He is starting this year and will be a starter all 4 years here. Just like Ejim.

Yea, I have some hope that he and Kane will both knock down the mid range jumper, which would be nice to have back in our arsenal.
