I don't understand how people say a third of the 15 million for the LHN each year goes to education, so we're only talking about 10 million. Really? Is a campus or quality school not a good recruiting piece for football coach? Isn't UT in Austin one of the better colleges anyway? Won't 5 million a year for 20 years only help that even more? Everything is integral and tied together here, it doesn't matter if one part goes to the school and the other goes to the AD. Heck, maybe UT is using that 5 million that goes to education for updated dorms for athletes or increased tutor usage for athletes. Do we really know?

So you're saying we shouldn't get to keep our money from Learfield? That's our 3rd tier package and we've made much more money off of it than Texas has of theirs. Should we have been subsidizing OU and TX? Check the numbers here: School-Specific Broadcasting Revenue «

IF the LHN plays by the rules...ie no high school and no other league games.. then I have no problem with it. They have every right to do that and most of the other leagues have the same setup...3rd tier rights go to the University directly. The only difference is...now Texas has a much bigger deal than the rest. But it's still the same structure.

Wow, where did I say anything along those lines? All I was pointing out was the people saying it's not 15 million we're talking about, it's 10 million because 5 goes to academics. I said no, it's still 15 million we're talking about. Where the other 5 goes has nothing to do with anything. It still helps recruiting in one way or another. I never said anything about whether they should or shouldn't get to keep all money for the LHN.

Thats a pretty crazy table. I think that reason the school make more money off third tier is becuse they see less on 1 and 2. I can reasonably often see TX or OK on TV here in Colorado but its a lot more work to find video or audio for ISU. I think its crazy that ESPN paid so much for the LHN. Won't most TX games be picked up by Tier 1 or 2?

Ahh gotcha. I agree we're still talking 15 mil.

That is one reason that I don't think the "uneven" revenue sharing model was as bad as everyone thought. The upper echelon teams got more of their games on 1st and 2nd tier...minimizing their 3rd tier. Other teams in the league that weren't on as much made up some of that difference in payout with 3rd tier.

That may be the case with our antiquated Tier 1 deal, but it won't be the case if the B12 survives long enough to get a new Tier 1 contract. We want to make sure we have agreed to equal revenue sharing before that point.

Also keep in mind our Tier 3 football TV revenue will be almost non-existent starting next year with the expanded Tier 2 Fox deal.

IF all the schools that do not currently own a network pledged a portion of their Tier III rights to the creation of a Big 12 network that included content relevant to the Horns (although likely no games) they could cut the LHN off at the knees. Bevo won't give up the LHN, so wither it on the vine, if that's what you want.

I still don't see what we are so upset about regarding LHN. They are currently being overpaid to provide content that is out of their hands/doesn't exist. Unless TV providers pick it up over the next year or two, ESPN is going to want out of that deal.

IF Fox Sports or NBC makes a move with the remaining teams toward a conference network with broader appeal, and includes UT content, the writing will be on the wall for the LHN's business model. ABC/ESPN was attempting to do what they could to corner the market on TV for one of the conference's better drawing teams, by getting two weekly cracks at putting the Horns on tv. FSN might have something to say about that.

Afyter the $5M handout for education, $10M a year to a $150M behemouth athletic budget will not float or sink their ship. They are still way ahead of the pack. Okie cannot catch them and they know it. If you want to take in more fball money, you expand your stadium. This list below says Beaver Stadium is tops.
