Breaking: Percy Gibson is a Cyclone

And the roller coaster that is the off-season starts going up again...nice get for the good guys!

Any ideas on what we do with the last open scholly? Bank it or use it?

From watching his videos and reading some of the recent reports/articles, it appears that Percy will fill in nicely for Godfrey and probably has a much bigger upside than CG did anyway.

The next two years are going to be damn exciting to watch for Cyclone fans!

I'll agree on the upside due to height. But Godfrey was starting to dominate teams toward the end of last season. I still wouldn't trade a 6'7 Sophomore Godfrey for a 6'9 FR in Gibson. We have yet to see how Gibson does at the Big 12 level. Definitely a needed signing though, because they were going to be pretty thin inside without him.

Good get. We won't know if he truly offsets the loss of Godfrey until we see him in Big 12 action, but at the very least he's a big body where we badly needed some quality depth. I'm trying to temper my excitement for now, but next season could be really special. Can't wait to find out!

I see that Iowa was recruiting him as well as a walk on.

Ah, I can see the uofi fans saying, "we didn't really want him anyway. He MIGHT be gray team matieral at best."

A very good addition to a team that needs some help close to the basket. I agree it still remains to be seen whether he offsets the loss of Godfrey. He sure has the right credentials, though.

Looks like one more reason for an upgrade to regular season tickets next year, rather than the cheapie nosebleed corner jobs.

Very true. At the minimum, Gibson appears to have a body that OUGHT to be able to handle big 12 post play. We will have to wait to see skill and athleticism.

I don't think that we can truly say that it offsets the loss of Godfrey, but it sure helps that's for sure. The fact that he is 240-pounds is HUGE. Regardless of ball skills, he'll be able to chew up space down low at the very least. Good get.

Gibson is well-spoken.

Good recruit for two reasons:

  1. Academically, this could be a real nice upgrade for the team
  2. Athletically, 6' 9" and 240 lbs and All-Michigan (All-Detroit, not certain)
Leaves an open scholarship for another late find or for another year.

Didn't last years team have the highest GPA for ISU MBB ever?
