Metcalf antics

Cael better wrestler? Yes. Better coach? He hasn't proved anything yet and at this rate to bring in a class like he did and not win a NC thats not good and a recruiting class won't get much better. Also 1 year with these boys and KJ has made most of them much better wrestlers in my eyes.

I just meant wrestler. Not coach.

I don't know much about the sport wrestling....but it was my understanding those who participate have class.

Is this the influence of tap-out/mixed martial arts fighting that is causing this absurd behavior?

I would say that for the most part MMA guys show more respect and class than pretty much any other sport. There are a few detractors but for the most part most guys are gracious in defeat and there isn't a lot of showing up of a competitor. They will play to the audience, but usually not in a way to disrespect the opponent.

No, if you watch MMA you'll see that an overwhelming majority of the fighters handle themselves with class and display a very high level of professionalism and respect for one another.

I don't hear very well, but I read lips.
The conversation went like this after the match was over.

Coach Brands: Whats wrong with your hand.
Metcalf: That kid hurt me.
Brands: Shake it off.
Metcalf: uhhhhhhhhh, OK.

 Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Did you even watch the match? I think Mueller probably took more shots than Metcalf did. Metcalf is obviously the better wrestler and was more successful in his shots, but to say Mueller didn't even try makes you look like a complete idiot. You may want to rewatch that match. I think most of Metcalf's points came from him countering Muellers shots. You have no idea what you are talking about.

I watched and I was at the dual in Ames also. Mueller comes out like he wants to be aggressive but he fades quickly and then seems to give up and tries to limit pts scored by Metcalf. Mueller got called for stalling didn't he? I have no idea what I am talking about, but the officials seemed to agree with what I am saying.

So, you just totally contradicted yourself. Metcalf wore him down. That's what good wrestlers do (see Varner).

I would say *for the most part* wrestlers are the same.

All roads and antics fuel the fire which will reach its peak in Omaha; and I can't wait to see it. At least Varner's clapping was not perverse. But when you see the two monkeys who coach them (squawks), I am not surprised.

Brands congratulated Brent after match, and Brent responded with the jerking off motion back to him, with the "I sucked, don't congratulate me" intentions, as he only beat mueller 7-3, and that's probably why Brands didn't shake hands with him as Metcalf was mad at his performance. The problem, was that he was still in the middle of the mat, and everyone saw it. He was wrong, but he wasn't disrespecting Mueller or ISU.

Assuming this IS true, still unacceptable show while in public.

Sureeee.

Mueller does that every time he wrestles Metcalf. He comes out and makes a couple of attempts at a takedown and then he sits on his heels for two periods. He comes out strong and tries to look like the aggressor so that he can avoid stalling, but then he doesn't do much the rest of the match. I'm not dissing him for doing this, it's what most guys do against Metcalf, I just think Metcalf was frustrated with the performance and that is why the gesture was made. Again, I don't thin khe should have done it, but from a competitive standpoint, I understand the frustration.

I'm sure Varner feels the same way a lot of times. They want to score pts and they want to be challenged, but sometimes they are just that much better than their opponents.

Brent Metcalf? Is this you?

I agree after the jerk motion I thought the hand shake from Metcalf toward Mueller was sincere and implied that Mueller did a good job. Metcalf knows it is his job to take it to his opponent and if he doesn't it is nobodies fault but his own, much like Varner.

Gable even commented that was probably the best mueller had wrestled metcalf to this point, so i'm going to have to disagree with you here-if the most biased announcer even saw that mueller wrestled a good match, how is it that you can't?

anyone have a youtube clip or anything?

I love when wrestlers live up to the negative stereotype...

I didn't say he didn't wrestle a good match. He did his job by not giving up any bonus pts. He seemed content in not winning but by only giving up 3 pts. Hence the stalling call or warning that came in the 3rd.

The topic is why Metcalf made the gesture. He was frustrated that he didn't perform better and score bonus pts. Mueller did a good job of frustrating him.

Glad we have an Iowa fan on site who can interpret their "jerking off" hand signals. I've never seen that signal used with that meaning before. Here all this time I though it meant that someone near the sitaution was a "jerk off". Thanks for the enlightenment.:jimlad:
