The great Lucca Staiger did it again.
0 points.
We saw this last year in four Big 12 conference games.
And yet everyone keeps saying what a great player, and great part of this team he is.
He's absolutely unreliable and inconsistent.

Pretty sure that the difference is not Lucca. They are not playing the inside out game, so our three's are coming from individual, guarded moves instead of open as the defense sags to the middle.

Right. Play that game, and he's open. Then he's deadly.

Nobody says he's a guy that will carry the team night in and night out, but he's a guy who can excel at his specific role, when the guys around him do theirs as well.

Now, some motion and such to get him open wouldn't hurt. We did that on one of his attempts last night, and it got him a good look.

Staiger needs to sit down. He will provide nothing down the road just like last year. He's a liability on D and all he does on O is stand at the three point line where when it comes down to it he's not that good. If he isnt wide open (and still misses them) he has not shot.

I saw him against UNI and the same thing. If he is wide open he's deadly if someone is in his face, he's not that good. If tries to take it in, he won't shoot, he'll pass it out.,

That is just the way he plays, it is his role on the team. CB plays in the post, DG at the point and Staiger behind the three point line waiting for the defense to break down so he can get an open shot. That is what he does, and we're not expecting him to be our marquee player by any means. JVB usually does the same exact thing but no one sits and complains about him.

I'm not sure what games you watch but CB isnt a post guy. He isnt a force inside and he seems to think that he should be taking shots from the outside aswell.

He will never get in a good position to shoot the ball with the offense we have. I can't blame him. We pass to the wing, and try to pass to the post, if that is not there, we reverse the ball. No improv from the guards, no dribble penetration. If you don't make the defense work, our offense won't work. We are basically running an offense that beats a zone, but if man to man is what we are facing, we need to do something different. This team is too talented to waste this year. I had to turn the game off last night out of frustration two minutes into the second half.

And what will you say when he hits 6-8 threes?

Shooters will have these games simply because they cant get open looks. Its not like he went 0-8 or anything. He just didnt get his open looks because Cal was smart and didnt help off of him when DG would drive. Cal's defense in that aspect of the game was very impressive.

It has nothing to do with Lucca. It is coming from the coaching and their lack of ability to get him involved. Half the time he runs down the floor and stands for about 20 sec. of the shot clock, heck I could even guard him then. The inside-out game has to be used or this team will sruggle in every game from here on out against decent competition.

Its tough for Staiger to get open looks when our "big guys" are trying to post up their defenders 15 feet away from the basket.

Then maybe Lucca should "post up" his man himself. Good Lord, many games he's guarded by someone much shorter than he is! Other teams know they can get away with it because he won't mix it up down low.
Staiger should have been in Ames this summer, lifting and conditioning himself to change his game. He got no better by playing in Europe, just jacking up three's.

This team is built on "finesse players", it seems like the only one that likes the physciality of the game are Gilstrap and occasionally Dendy.

Same players and expecting different results... yet the flaw of ISU fans.

Sincerely,

Chris Colvin
Marquis Gilstrap
Laron Dendy
Scott Christopherson

Although I see what your saying about the high expectations cyclone fans set.

SC shoots the ball just as well and plays D. He should be starting and if Mac can't see this we've got a bigger problem than Lucca.

I meant having the same player back and expecting that certain guy doing something different.
