Cracks in the B1G?

They just waited until there was nowhere better for schools to go.

I doubt anyone will leave, but about 70% of that league is going to be forced to reckon with the reality that they're making Big 12/ACC $ to play Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State.

Couldn't happen to a better group of schools.

About to gut the very thing that made the Big 10 the behemoth it is. And I’m here for it.
The thing that made the Big 10 the behemoth it is was that Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State never showed interest in joining another conference and instead brought the big brands to them.

That's really it. If Texas, Nebraska, Aggy, and Oklahoma had taken that same mentality there's no reason the Big 12 couldn't have the same power.

The most infuriating thing about the Big 12 realignment is that, while they had started their decline, Nebraska still had a ton of cache before they left. They could’ve spearheaded reforms that left the Big 12 on more stable footing, but instead they whined about Texas then took their ball and left.

No

It’s the behemoth it is because of Ohio State and Michigan.

That’s the point. That’s why unequal revenue sharing is natural progression.

It keeps the BIG being the behemoth that it is. It keeps Ohio State in the BIG. It keeps them on top. The Big 12 didn’t benefit from UT struggling, and the BIG doesn’t benefit from OSU slipping, let alone leaving

It’s only a matter of time before OSU and Michigan and maybe a couple others in the Big 10 and SEC go to a hybrid conference affiliation/independent and make all that sweet money that ND made this last year.

Expansion is mostly done. Contraction is what is coming next.

They still have a tone of cache. They might not be OSU but Nebby is in the same tier group with PSU and Oregon and a few other in the big 10 pecking order when it comes to redistributing the wealth.

If they do it, they will have killed the golden goose. Hardly anyone outside that conference will have any interest in watching them. I certainly won't.

I pretty much only watch games involving Big 12 teams. I just don't enjoy watching B1G or SEC football strictly because of their arrogance and really bad football for B1G. I may watch some G5 games but those are on weeknights.

Who could have possibly seen this coming.

The only surprising aspect for me at least, is that I always assumed this would come after they destroyed the ACC. Guess that unmitigated greed got a little too antsy and couldn't wait.

It's going to be:
Ohio State
Oregon
Penn State
Michigan
USC if they ever get their **** together and the rest fighting for scraps. Which leads me to my next question... is Indiana, Iowa, Purdue going to sit around and take a lot less? methinks not. Yormark better be waiting.

We were a made for TV conference. The SWC schools had just ended decades of history to play in Iowa and Kansas so they could make more in TV.

Not surprising Big 12 schools never stopped looking for a better offer, a better solution to staying at the top of TV

Fast forward to 2030, and potentially half the BIG are new members that left tradition for more money. You have Ohio State flying over the country to play non-Big 10 schools. Getting too many noon games

It’s only natural they look around and see it’s the Big 10 in name only. Time to get their share

Possible uneven revenue sharing in the B1G. That's not a successful model. Gonna be lots of 2nd class schools.

This is fantastic news. The best possible outcome for the ISUs of the world. It was already impossible for most of the SEC and Big 10 to compete for conference championships. Now they'll get less money AND have lesser brands? That's an insurmountable structural disadvantage. Welcome to small market baseball, you sell outs! hahahahaha
