Player development

Will Dave Andrews help with filling out the skinny arms and shoulders of the ISU BB team? As I watched specifically Baylor beat us in the second half, we do not match up physically with them. Seems we can do better to develop, Conditt, Bolton, Lewis, Halliburton and all players reach their potential. Certainly this will also help players compete a full 40 minutes. May not help with ball handling, but at least make players bigger and stronger.

NFL: Eli Manning Retires

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28540028/eli-manning-retires-16-nfl-seasons

Hall of Famer?

The case for: Two time Super Bowl winner and MVP, author of arguably the most iconic play in SB history, seventh all time in passing yards and TDs. The only other HOF eligible quarterback who has won two Super Bowls and not made it is Jim Plunkett.

Case against: 117-117 regular season record as a starting QB. Led the NFL in interceptions three(!) times. Finished in passer rating top ten once.

I think he'll get in, just maybe not on his first year of eligibility. But who knows? That last name carries a lot of weight, and maybe that puts him in right away once he's eligible. Should be an interesting debate for the voters.

WBB: Donarski makes McD AA Game

Congrats to Lexi!

Caitlin Clark also made the team. This Register article about Clark making the team mentions a future Maryland player making the team but not Donarski.

EDIT: As posted below, there's a Register article on Donarski that came out at almost the same time I posted this

Twister Sister Summary - women win an ugly one

After watching the game last night I had lots of notes. Words like terrible, horrid, cold, slow, and ugly kept popping up. So, I decided to sit on it for a day and see if I felt any different about the game than I did while watching it. Fortunately, the sun came out today!

Let's go positive. For starters, Jade still is a bolt of electricity for this team. She started last night and was doing a good job overall. When coach initially did a line change and brought in Rae and Maggie things feel apart for a while. The defense looked lost. BUT Rae started to do some things that were very un-Rae like. The person who I've ranted about dribbling incessantly started driving the lane. She passed the ball. She nailed some big shots. This was as good (overall) as I've seen Rae play. Another big plus is watching how AC has become a fixture in the starting lineup. She isn't flashy, but she gets all the little things done and appears when you need her to. Then there is Joens. I can't come up with any new words to describe her. Here is my try...she is a combination of Bridget and Pop. She has the skill set of Bridget and the hard nosed grit of Pop. Already one of the best players I've seen in some time. The last positive is that the ladies didn't fold when pushed. They easily could have after another bad third quarter, but they found a way. That determination will benefit them in the long run.

All those bad things...this team just does some ugly things. Another 5 second call on an inbounds play that this time was Maggie's fault. Shooting that is hot and cold. Most of the game these two teams did a disservice to the game of basketball. The first half KSU couldn't buy a basket with a coupon. With all of this happening what gave the sisters the advantage was clearing the defensive glass and limiting turnovers in the first half. A little burst from Rae saw the lead go to double digits at halftime.

And then...the wheels (offensively) fell off...again. The third quarter saw KSU change their strategy and go inside where their bigs clearly dominated our "post" players. To make matters worse, our posts developed the tendency to swat at the ball and got called for fouls repeatedly. KSU kicked our butts to the tune of a 20-13 third and cut a 13 point lead down to 2 early in the 4th. It was chew on nails (and say some bad words) time for me.

I'll close with a two positive notes. After seeing that lead cut to 2 and the sisters seemingly unable to score, Joens and Rae came to the rescue offensively. Joens scored 9 points to match the entire KSU team and with others' help the lead got pushed back to 9. The downside followed quickly. KSU started pounding inside and we gave up several traditional 3 point plays by swiping at the ball. ISU started to work the clock and after a miss Nez made a great rebound and dished to Rae. Beautiful drive, a pivot and swish...lead extended. Rae iced the game at the line and we saw Maggie and AC get some crucial rebounds on the defensive end to make this game look less close than it was. Grit and determination. That wins ball games.

Free Throws - as you all know this is my favorite stat. How about going 100% from the line at 10-10 on the night? Amazingly, the only two players to shoot them were Joens and Rae. Scott def should have had a couple.

Wise Watch - Maddie got her delegated minutes (about 18 I think) last night and while she isn't scoring a lot yet, her presence is so important to our guard court. A little line of 3 points, 2 boards and 2 steals sure helps out.

Nez - while she was switched in and out of the game she continues to amaze me with her graceful moves and court awareness on offense. Defense has its ups and downs, but she is a player to watch on O.

Joens - ho hum...another double double. 21 points. 11 boards. 2 steals. 3 blocks. Don't you love it? She backs down to NO ONE.

Scott - this was a tough game for Kristen. She was facing some posts that had more size and inside she struggled to score. The outside shot wasn't falling either. Defense was a bit suspect throughout. Just a tough game.

AC - she is that "invisible" intangible on this team. She is always going. Picked up double digits in scoring, hit three treys, got some big boards and her defense was pretty solid.

Sunday is another step forward. KU comes to town. VERY winnable ball game and if we can keep rotating 8 players or nine instead of six or seven we should be in great shape to win. KU is 12-5 overall, but 1-5 in the conference. The only power 5 wins they have are against Florida and Texas Tech. See you at the H Sunday!

Ticket Exchange and Ticketmaster

I wanted to list for sale four basketball tickets. The price I was going to ask was $10 per ticket thinking that a family would be interested at that price

When listing, I found that I could not list them for less than $25 per ticket. Face value of the ticket is $19.12.

I sent an email to the ticket office. This is what I wrote -

I was listing tickets for sale through my account and Ticketmaster will not allow tickets to be sold for less than $25 each

I wanted to list them for $10 with the idea that at that price they would be affordable for a family

Why are we discouraging families by requiring the higher prices?

This is the response I received -

Thank you for your email. We have a cap on Ticket Exchange being able to be posted at around 60% of face value of the ticket. We evaluate those levels each year and have lowered the each of the past few years. We'll take your request into consideration when determining the minimum price of resale tickets. Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your continued support of ISU Athletics!

If the cap is 60% of the face value, shouldn't I have been able to list the ticket at $12?

Insider Information Weekly Mailbag 01-22-2020
With special guest CoachHines3!
Sponsored by JuicyCloneNutz. JuicyCloneNutz - an explosion of flavor in your mouth!

@CycloneRulzz asks: Damn one just came to me. Why is it we can get a countdown clock for stupid fake tough UCF douches but not our Iowa State teams?
CoachHines3:
the closest i come to watchin ufc is watching paige vanzants instagram page. so if i could get a countdown clock for every time she is going to post a new photo that would be great. as for us iowa state fans we just need a countdown clock counting down the time until we need to strap up our nutty cups.
Pants: Is UFC still a thing?
CoachHines3: for a split sec i thought he was asking a question on UCF. they are also stupid and fake tough.
GTO: he did type UCF, but I corrected it to UFC. On second thought, back to UCF.
GTO: Because ESPN+ has got us by the CloneCones. Just wait until they get the countdown clock for the 2020 Tetris World Championships on there. But seriously. WORLD championships is a bit of a stretch. I can’t imagine more than 2 kids in Bhutan are training for that Tetris competition.

@GTO asks: For next week, since I missed cutoff: Would you rather be able to see 5 minutes into your future (but lose a year of your life every time you do it) or gain 10 years of life every time you want (but a random stranger would die every time you get an additional ten years and you have to attend that person's wake/funeral)?
Pants:
Honestly, neither. But since I have to pick, the former. I’d just choose to never use it. I’m assuming you still don’t know when you die? So I could be like “man, this is an intense Iowa State game, I’m just going to zip ahead and quick and see if we win” and then immediately die because your death date was within the next year.
GTO: I think a good look at 10-15 minutes into the future at a Vegas casino roulette table would be nice to get rich AF. What’s 2-3 years of life worth? The second scenario would be great if you got a guarantee that it would always be people 80 or older. I’ll go with scenario 1.
CoachHines3: give me the latter. look, if they r a random stranger no harm no foul. ill attend the wake and sign the guest book thanking them for putting 10 years on to my life. that alone will put mr random strangers fam bam in a good mood knowing that coach h gets 10 more years. i know most want me to live forever, but i’d only want like 30 years extra so i can sacrifice my time to attend 3 funerals.

@BCClone trying to learn the appropriate swinger etiquette: Exactly how does one start a key party club? Do you have a get together, ply the other couples with alcohol or roofies and then they agree to it? Also, do you hear cries of disappointment from that woman when you pick the keys out.
GTO:
I don’t know how to get one started, but my move would be to take all the remaining keys and see how many of the ladies follow me. Worth a shot.
CoachHines3: you can usually find a very nice looking couple(s) on the craigslist who are always willing.. not sure they are able but if they can lay there im game. most women mark their keys in hopes of coach h picking theirs.
Pants: I think the thing with roofies is that they can’t consent. This ain’t the 70s anymore though! There’s clubs specifically for that sort of thing. If you make friends at that club, you could do your own key party afterward with willing participants. That said, if someone cries picking up your keys 1. I think consent just ended and 2. You’ve got a lot of confidence going to one of those parties in the first place. That said, I’m a generous lover, so that would never happen with me.
CoachHines3: trust me he is a generous lover
GTO: that reminds me that someone came to talk to me about some shortage and I thought to myself: “if you got a shortage it was not from me, I always give an overage” Avoided an HR trip by keeping that to myself. Plus, it is also not true. Well, back to work on fixing that shortage.
Pants: After last week’s mailbag, my amazon account started suggesting pocket pussies to me, so I’m anxious to see what this week’s mailbag will do.

@Cyched asks: Will the all star lineup include @bannedman?
CoachHines3:
bannedman is just a poor mans coach h. with that being said im just a guest and would enjoy his banter.
Pants: I’m pushing hard to get Bannedman in board.
GTO: we have not started negotiations, but he is on our list of prospective guests. Probably somewhere between CW and BDK. BTW, is bannedman the poster formerly named internetman? Who was he before that?
Pants: I believe he was iamairbhg or whatever it was.
GTO: wasn’t he a Hawkeye? Or am I thinking of antiairbhg?
Pants: One was the Hawk, one was trolling the Hawk. Can’t remember which was which. @bannedman can probably clear it up.

@SCyclone trying to get us moved to the cave: If you could throw a wild-card into the Democratic debates, who would it be?
Pants:
I will be running for political office in the fairly near future, but I’m assuming you’re talking about 2020. I’ll go serious though, and say throw in Van Jones. He’s incredibly well spoken, intelligent and leans pretty far left on some things and pretty moderate on others. I think he could add a real value to the conversation. (Though he’s said he’ll never run for office.)
GTO: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
CoachHines3: i dont do politics so for the sake of being funny i am saying myself. and im only there to throw out 1 line insults.
“Stop it bernie, or i will set you on fire”
“This is my crystal ball wait here.. Know what I see.. Old lady.. After the debate.. SHOT TO THE HEAD!!”
“After this debate, alphabetical order, mass murder”

Key note on the Mick McCall hire

Just adding a little perspective here for our forum users...

Matt really wanted to bring in an older, experienced mind to the offensive room to help mentor all of the young coaches on that side of the ball. That's what this hire is about. McCall is a guy Campbell credits much his success to and thinks he can help be that to many of the guys on that side of the staff room. He won't be the OC but he's a guy that Manning will have at his disposal to bounce things off of 24/7.

Goes pretty deep here. I love the hire.
