Javan Johnson at 4

Why do a lot of posters on this board think Javan Johnson will play 4 next year?

I have watched a few highlight video's of his game and I just don't see him as a small ball 4. Sure he can shoot the 3, as over 50% of his attempts were from beyond the 3 pt. line. But he looks pretty slender. The Cyclone website lists him at 6'6" and 195lbs. He looks like a prototypical wing.

Looking back at Elite ISU's teams over the past 10 years, we had Ejim or Hogue as our small ball 4's Those guys would average around 8rpg. People focus on our poor shooting last year, but a bigger issue for me was poor offensive & defensive rebounding. Add to that, we have lacked physical toughness.

Another reason why I don't think Johnson is a good fit at 4 is Solomon Young. He is a mediocre rebounder at best- averaging about 6 rebound per 30 minutes.

I think ISU can be a solid team next year- but IMO its going to take a PG like DeJulius and a physical 4.

PG - Transfer
WG - Bolton
WG - Johnson
P - Transfer or Conditt or Foster
P - Young or Conditt

C-RTC & Recruiting

Just wondering for those in the know what is going on with our C-RTC??? Penn State gets Kyle Snyder and Thomas Gilman to leave their schools. Ohio State goes out and gets J'Den Cox. ASU gets Mark Perry away from Iowa. ISU has been fundraising for 3 years now. They have an Olympic house for athletes to live in for free and and have over $600,000 in donations. Yet we haven't added any athletes. Does this hurt our recruiting??? I just don't get the (ISU guys only to be in the RTC program). Get a few exciting "brand name" RTC athletes and add/change up our coaching staff. Maybe add a recruiting coordinator and a top name assistant even if its just a Volunteer spot.

Below is recruits we have landed in the latest 3 classes.
Top 100 big board recruits from 2019 - 2020 - 2021
125 Reeves #20
133 Redding #75
149 Paniro Johnson #36
157 Robinson #73
184 Broderson #89

Okie State hires Tyler Caldwell last year as their recruiting coordinator and in 2 recruiting classes 2020 & 2021 they have got the following....
125 Trevor Mastrogiovanni #13
133 Jakason Burks #54
141 Teague travis #56
149 Victor Voinovich #15
157 Travis Mastrogiovanni #9
157 Daniel Manibog #47
174 Luke Surber #63
184 Dustin Plott #11
197 AJ Ferrari #10
285 Kyle Haas #10
285 Konner Doucet #90

I just thought by now we would see ISU land big name recruits and have one of the best RTC programs around. Neither are even close to being true and I just don't understand what the hold up is?

RECRUITING: What I'm hearing ... 4-11-20 PM update

Hey fellas -

I've been waiting to put anything out as there is just a lot of fluid stuff happening. I'll list some stuff that I think is relevant here and can try to take any follow-up questions too. Blum and I are recording a pod tonight that I will use some time on hoops recruiting for.

--- Justin Turner, Bowling Green - I think will be tough to get. I've heard he's a Missouri lean. BUT, there does seem to be a little bit of momentum for Iowa State over the last 24 hours. I'm not holding my breath here but feel better about Iowa State chances today than I did earlier in the week. Hearing he will decide Sunday or Monday.

--- Dave DeJulius, Michigan - I think Iowa State is in a good spot. Iowa State was one of the first to reach out to him and I believe will be in his final two ... Not positive who else will be there in the end. I'd guess Marquette...maybe Cincinnati. I'm told will decide early next week.

--- AJ Walker, Air Force - Here's a guy who many aren't talking about who I think ISU has a real chance at too. A 40 percent 3-point shooter. Averaged 11 per game last year. I watched him in Vegas vs. SDSU and was very impressed. Don't think he'd come in and be an "it" guy but he'd definitely push to start, and ISU needs guards badly.

--- OVERALL - I know Iowa State has other guys on the radar that aren't public yet. Hand on my grandmother's grave, I do know have names to give even if I could. I'm guessing more will surface next week. I'll be all over it for you guys. Right now, Turner/DeJulius would be a hell of a pair. I'm guessing it'll be just one but stay tuned. It should be an eventful 72 hours or so.

Childhood diseases

When I was kid (early 60"s) I had the measles, mumps, chickenpox, etc. I had it all.

I remember my best friend's mom brought her family of three kids to our house when we had the measles so that they could be exposed. The house was kept dark because it was believed that the measles would affect the eyes.

I broke out with the chickenpox at a neighbor's summer wedding. It was high mass so it seemed like it took forever. I finally got my mom's attention and showed her the spots on my arm and she got me out of the church but not before I had exposed the kids in the row in front of and behind us.

My siblings had the mumps before I did. For some reason, I just wasn't catching them. But I did take advantage of the situation and told mom I wasn't feeling well and she would keep me out of school. This worked for a couple days. I finally came down with them on a Sunday evening.

Gaming/Internet Help?

I’m not internet/technologically savvy so bare with me if I’m using bad terminology. Our son is constantly saying his gaming system lags on our WiFi even tho his room is on the same level 30 feet from our modem. He constantly asks to move our cable tv modem/router into his room so he can connect directly to it. We let him once but our TV guide & TiVo stopped working correctly. So my question is this. Is there a way to connect his gaming system directly to the cable outlet in his room without using our main modem/router? Can we buy a 2nd modem or another device for his room with no issues or interference with the main router in our family room?

Friday (Night) OT: You're Quite the Character

Greetings! Here's a bonus evening-FOT, as we all stay safe, maintain social distance and avoid making eye contact with strangers. :)

I found this personality quiz referenced in a recent Mental Floss article, "Which Fictional Character Are You?"

Link to quiz at Openpsychometrics.org

My match, according to the assessment: Nick Carraway, "The Great Gatsby." That comes close to hitting the nail on the head for me.

Curious to see results from other CF members.

Logue Is ISU's Top Female Athlete In 2019-20

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State All-American and Big 12 champion distance runner Cailie Logue was recognized today by the Iowa State Athletics Department as the recipient of the 2020 Celia Barquin Arozamena Iowa State Female Athlete of the Year award.

Logue, a native of Erie, Kan., was phenomenal in a shortened season, claiming three Big 12 titles (cross country, 3,000 meter indoor and 5,000 meter indoor) and was the NCAA Midwest Region cross country champion.

In the fall, the junior won her second-straight conference cross country crown and was the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Cross Country Women's Runner of the Year for the second time after repeating as the Midwest Regional champion.

She went on to earn All-America honors by placing 15th at the 2019 NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships.

Logue was primed to have an incredible spring before the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship and the entire outdoor season was canceled.

In February, Logue earned the Big 12 Indoor Championships Women's Co-High Point Award after claiming Big 12 titles in the 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter runs. She had qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championship in the 5,000 meter run and her time of 15:50.15 in the event at the BU Season Opener ranks as the third-fastest in school history behind only national champions Betsy Saina and Lisa Koll.

Logue is a six-time Big 12 champion and was the Performer of the Year at the 2019 Big 12 Track & Field Outdoor Championships.

The Iowa State Female Athlete of the Year award was renamed the Celia Barquin Arozamena Female Athlete of the Year award in honor and memory of Iowa State's 2018 Female Athlete of the Year who died in September of 2018.

Logue will receive the award in the fall.

Toilet Paper

Saw an interview with Doug McMillon (Wal-Mart CEO) on CBS News this morning. Wal-Mart alone has sold enough toilet paper in the last three weeks for every man, woman and child in the U.S. to have their own roll. That is over 325 million rolls of toilet paper.

Friday OT - It's Murder By Numbers, One, Two, Three

I'm not sure I can explain this very well, but here goes. Yesterday I was making a playlist of 80s alternative stuff (harder than it sounds when the oldest you ever were in the 80s was grade school).

I was listening to The Sugarcubes, and started thinking about how much more successful Bjork was solo than she ever was with them, and how that's quite often a rarity in my low-grade observation. Got to Til Tuesday, and realized the same about Aimee Mann.

I then started thinking about it on a macro scale, trying to narrow down the basic math of going solo. Here were a few examples I could think of:

Any of the Beatles - far more successful together than solo

Phil Collins
- I think maybe more successful solo than with Genesis?

Sting
- I can't find good data to back up if he was more successful solo than with The Police ("Synchronicity" was a #1 album while he never had any solo #1s, but that's the best metric I can find - certainly more longevity solo)

Mick Jagger - didn't even come close to The Stones solo

Michael Jackson - far more successful solo, but arguably the Jackson 5 was just built around him to package him

Justin Timberlake - same as Michael

Beyonce - see Michael/JT

Scott Weiland - definitely more successful w/STP

Robert Plant - never came close to LZ

So, what I've seemed to narrow down (without putting a ton of research or thought into it) is that it seems like an artist is more likely to be more popular solo than with their band if they meet one of these two criteria:

1. The band from which they originated was small-to-middling success; or
2. The hugely successful band from which they came seems like it was mostly built around them already

OK, I don't know if any of that made sense. Mostly it was - can anyone prove or disprove my math? What examples do you have that fit or break the mold?
