Send over your questions for mailbag & podcast

HEY EVERYONE

I am catching up on some post-NCAA items. When I got home, some family stuff came up, so I got a bit derailed.

I’m working on a takeaways/mailbag-style piece and would love to include any questions you’ve got! I already plan to cover general/future lineups and transfer portal, so if there’s anything outside of those topics you’re curious about, feel free to send it my way. It doesn't have to be specific to NCAA's. It can truly be about everything and anything! Nothing is off the table. Its the offseason!

Ben and I will also be recording once he’s back from his honeymoon, so even if you don’t have a specific question, let me know if there’s a topic you’d like us to cover on the pod!

Appreciate all of you!

Will JUCO's ever become a feeder program?

Now with the NCAA deciding JUCO players get 4 years of D1 eligibility I was thinking for some guys like JT rock would it not make more sense to direct them to go to an Indian Hills and play for two years to develop skillsets? I know in the past players that didn't meet academic requirements would be encouraged to go for JUCO for a year and be recruited after, so there is certainly a precedent.

There's an argument that players benefit from getting in our program early and maybe redshirting but now with the ruling they would maintain 4 years of eligibility and we wouldn't have to use a scholarship on a guy that wont be productive. I could see Iowa State pushing some tweener freshman this direction and working with some of our good JUCO programs around the state.

The transfer rules really made an impact to JUCO recruiting but I could see this changing things in the future.

Let’s Get Creative: all Iowa State never was, but what if team

Who’s your starting 5 Iowa State prospects or bench players that you thought were the next Fred, Dedric, or Jamaal but never got the chance or you never shifted your expectations and struggled to accept reality.

Maybe they went on to play somewhere else, maybe they never wore an ISU uniform, or maybe they stepped away from the game and got into anime.

But you were convinced they were the missing piece when the crystal ball pointed to ISU or they announced they were committing.

Players Era Tournament 2026

Iowa State is scheduled to play in the upcoming Players Era Tournament for 2025, but 2026 sounds like it's going to be a 32 team tournament style event with NIL payouts. Sounds like all teams that are participating in 2025 will also participate in 2026. If so, that's big time for Iowa State.

Playing for metrics or end of year health and success

If there is 1 thing I'd like change in the mentality of our current program it would be getting away from bowing to the metrics of winning big in trash early season games. Cyclone talking heads always bring up the 17-2 start we had and high ratings in kenpom, but 90% of those teams were basically traffic cones we beat by 30.
In my opinion, I'd rather win by 12-20 in those non-con games and play 10-12 guys deep throughout instead of our 7-8 guys playing 35min to run up the score.
Rest our guys early, play the whole roster, mix young/new guys in at all points of the game, get game experience and hopefully end the season without weardown/overuse injuries.

Back to the Beginning - set list

This is the end.
July 5th, 2025
Villa Park, Aston, Birmingham, England.

As I understand it, Ozzy is going to do short solo set before Black Sabbath finishes the night.

Two questions...

How many songs do they play (medleys don't count)?
What are they?

Keeping in mind Ozzy's warmup and the return of an elderly Bill Ward on drums...

And if you're a fan of Aston Villa...UP THE VILLA!

Twister Sister Summary - Thirty Years and What It Means

We are nearing the end of a coaching era. Here's a look at the impact the hiring of Bill Fennelly has had on Iowa State.

Iowa everywhere today and 2 guys

I honestly didn’t want to listen to Iowa everywhere today because I didn’t want to hear Hassels crap about ISU disappointing this year. It wasn’t bad but to be brutally honest the discussion on Bryce miller had me tearing up listening to it (and I didn’t even know the guy). I appreciate the honesty, the emotion and it was said on the pod but it really puts things into perspective as to what’s important in life. One of the better pods I’ve listened to in a long time.

Thank you Chris!

Senior Appreciation Thread

First of all. Shout out to the Seniors this year.

Chatfield - brought alot more to the team than I would have expected to start the season.
Gilbert - extremely dynamic player that should be a tryout/shot at the next level, but injuries plagued him and a special all-around season
Jones - Fantastic season, 6th man of the year. Should get a tryout/shot at the next level.

Is Jones really gone? It sounds like they are proceeding with requesting another year. TJ said they are proceeding as though he isnt getting it,
but the juco year actually should technically give him another year next year. If the NCAA follows the new policy then he SHOULD be back in 2025-2026.

Login to view embedded media - talking about potential for playing next year.

Regardless, they had a really special class that ran into a buzzsaw with injuries, but certainly gave fans a really fun and special year to watch.

Go Clones!

EDIT: THIS IS FOR THE WBB TEAM. Probably should have not posted this after last night's MBB loss.

Now that we've had some time to cool off from the end of the season. How would you rate it? I left off +/- but feel free to comment with those included.

Preconference: C-

Pretty disappointing, but not disastrous.

I'll admit I was one who was foolish and bought the preseason hype. Audi, Addy, and Emily back with transfers who should shore up our 3 pt shooting. Me Gusta.

Losing to UNI and Iowa hurt. We had decent leads in each of those games and blew it. Losing to SCAR and UCONN was expected, but man they blew any idea that this team should be ranked out of the water.

The wins against Drake and MTSU saved this section of the season from being a D or F.

Conference: B-

Underwhelmed, but performed when expected.

We won every game we should have and lost every game we should have. Barring one exception KSU. The inability to "punch up" made our getting into the tournament a big question mark until the KSU win. One more loss and we probably would have missed the tournament.

Gave this a B- as opposed to a B because the team regressed from winning against the odds and some of the losses were not great showings.

Postseason: B

Satisfied, performed to my expectations.

As a repeat to the last section, we won every game we should have and lost every game we should have. The ladies had good/great performances against ASU and Princeton and made the games against Baylor and Michigan toss ups.

Wished for more but got what I expected.

Overall Season rating: B-

I can't help that the preseason expectations have colored my perception on this entire season and is the reason I have to give it a B-. Picked 2nd in the XII to fall to 7th, and from top 10 to PIG was disappointing. A 23-12 season is a pretty good record and is our 3rd (or 4th depending on if you want to count by win% or total wins) best season in the last 10 years.
