For a team that was “stoked” to play in the Big 12 tournament, they sure didn’t look like it.

Needed an early timeout instead of getting behind 17-2. If that run was 10-2 or even 12-2, we might have likely overcame it. Think the closest we got after that was 6 maybe 5 points. That’s 100% on BF.

I understand your premise, but I’ve watched copious amounts of Women’s Basketball over the last four years, and that is far from an insurmountable lead. I’ve watched countless Big Ten games this year where teams were down by that much & MORE and came back and won or were at least in “it” at the end. Hell, Maryland alone has played in multiple games like that this year on both ends of losing Big and winning Big and ended up tied at some point in the game.

Separating the tournaments has murdered Hilton South for the ladies. Completely dead environments in an arena that's 5x larger than it needs to be while everyone waits til next week to head to KC.

It's sad.
Too many people screamed "it's not fair!" when the tourney was at Municipal Auditorium, while in reality it was the right size for the women's tourney IMO.

Fair point but NOTHING was going right on either end of the court at the moment. Needed time to set something up and get more controlled. Have to trust your gut and listen to it and mine would have been ‘Call a TO’.

The Kansas State women ended the game on a 21-0 run to win their game by 7.

Yeah, I’m not pooh-pooling the fact they came in listless and it’s the coaches job to do something about that. But as an aside, I have to tell you something that is kind of funny in retrospect… I looked it up on ESPN to see how the game was going and I saw they were down 17 - 2 and I immediately thought to myself that’s no big deal that should at least keep them from building a major lead and then losing it… I didn’t consider the fact that they would never ever catch up :p

And more often, they don't. What's your point here? That it should be expected to come back from 17-2 and win?

yeah, we should totally expect a 21-0 run. What the hell are you guys even talking about?

The point is they weren't ready to play, and the coaching didn't mitigate the damage. We had it down to 5 early in the 2nd half. We had plenty of opportunities to get back in the game. We get a potential 4-point play and Audi misses two free throws. How many wide open threes did we miss? It was a total team failure. Coaches and players. I know everyone wants to fire Fennelly, but how many times will our guards throw the ball to Audi with three girls surrounding her? Why aren't we practicing pass fakes and using Audi as a decoy? Is Addy healthy? She doesn't seem like the same player. There are a lot of issues, and everything came to a head in that performance.

Yes…. I would expect a good team to be capable of coming back from down 15 in the first quarter…absolutely. “That“ is my point. I would have to guess that all of the top 20 teams have spent multiple games, especially early on down by double digits and still came back and we’re competitive…..

Your comment about “most teams“ is ridiculous because you’re talking about 350 division one women’s basketball teams of course poor teams get behind and never come back. But a team with the talent and capabilities of Iowa State should never “sweat“ a 15 point deficit in the…”first quarter“… we’re not talking about down 15 with eight minutes left. And yet plenty of teams even overcome that.

If they can’t be expected to do that, then once again, it’s a reason for the coaching staff to hang it up.

Coaching  …. look, you don’t know me at all, and I have lambasted multiple fan bases on message boards (from the SEC to here) for constantly ******** about their coaches….

But here is something we need to critically evaluate… Either Fennely isn’t making his point clear to these guards that they “shouldn’t be” passing the ball in with three people there, in which case they are stupid and should be benched or he encourages it….

Again…”coaching”

Lol this is the most ridiculous line of thinking I've seen yet. They *did* come back. They were in the game out of the gate in the 2nd half. Spotting a team 15 points is going to severely affect your chances of winning. I can't believe I'm even having to explain this. *Expecting* a team to come back from 15 points and win is so incredibly dumb.

That you can't see that getting down 15 points off the jump is far more incriminating than their inability to overcome that lead points to a major basketball IQ or even basic math deficiency.

Well, just so you know the last I looked UCLA is currently losing to Washington by 10 points. I fully expect them to come back and win by 20….

And I’m a little too old to be overwhelmed by somebody questioning my basketball “IQ” if Iowa were to get down by 15 points at any time tonight, I will still be expecting them to come back and win…. You be you buddy.

I don’t have too much trouble conversing with people in the sports community nor am I threatened by a message board fan
