2025-2026 MBB computer projections thread

Starting early this year but this team...

Added Heise back. Removed the oddity of Dwayne Pierce remaining a Cyclone.

The results?

The updated roster would be #15 after Illinois and before Arizona.

That projection is in the range of fighting for a top-four seed in the Big 12 tournament.

There is a strong possibility Houston and BYU maul the conference like... well, two cougars.

ISU plans to combine Alumni Association and ISU Foundation

"This is a significant undertaking," Wintersteen said, "but our combined efforts will build upon both organizations' collective strengths and proud histories. It truly is exciting to consider the new opportunities that will emerge and to imagine how we benefit from a unified approach to engaging our tremendously loyal, tremendously supportive students, alumni, donors and friends." - ISU

Not sure how this will all flush out, whether it's a full merger under a new title or a soft combo of teams, the details at this time are pretty vague. The groups are pretty cross pollinated as it is so I don't think it's anything like a hostile corporate merger. Will be interesting to see how this new group gets along with the athletic department. The athletic department has always seemed to me to be less than friendly with either group as they seem to think they are "competitors" vying for dollars that should be donated to the department, and now NIL.

Since the COVID year, and suspended ISUAA event hosting in that period, the alumni association has seemed to lose a lot of momentum and the same of the ISU Foundation as well, at least locally here. ISU Foundation used to come up to Mpls (15,000 alumni here in the greater metro) annually each spring/summer and host a big invite president's reception. They have not done that in a number of years. Granted those relied a lot on a well to do alumni to sponsor it so maybe that country club set isn't stepping up like they used to. The last one they hosted was a poorly attended one hosted in a downtown Mpls hotel, not a great appeal locale compared to something like hosting at a country club or the Walker Art Center or something of that genre.

***WBB: 2029 Recruiting Thread***

Starting up 2029 -- Iowa just offered a 2030 recruit, so I better get 2029 up since 2030 may not be far behind. Not much here yet, but that'll probably change quickly over the next few months.

Let me know if there are any corrections needed.

LA proposal to raise taxes on sportsbooks and give money to D1 athletic programs

this needs to happen in Iowa. Tax rate on the sportsbooks is a joke, only 6.75% in Iowa right now. NY is 50% which is too high, but they could do 20% easy.

A proposal to more than double the tax placed on sports gambling in Louisiana – and dedicate some of that revenue to Division I athletics programs – is moving forward in the state legislature.
The House Appropriations Committee voted Monday to advance House Bill 639 by Rep. Neil Riser, R-Columbia, to increase the tax on sports gambling from 15% to 32.5%. The higher rate aligns with the tax the state places on video poker.
The proposed increase in sports gambling taxes has support from conservative and progressive corners, both saying the revenue should be used to offset the “social ills” of gambling. The new rate would generate another $2 million for addiction programs.

105 Roster Limit—Grandfathering

I am seeing that last week the Judge in the case gave the NCAA a two week deadline to grandfather on returning players against the limit.

This only makes sense, since the ruling came down after kids were already on teams. And it would help ISU, in that the ‘24 freshman were easily the most talented group of walkons yet.

The good news being, I don’t think even the NCAA can find a way to mess this one up. Kids on the ‘24 roster simply have four more years to complete their eligibility, as an exception to the 105. Duh.

And each year, the graduates trim that down.

Anxiety

If any of you deal with anxiety, what are some good ways to handle it? I have had it a bit in the past, but for the last couple of months it has gotten out of hand, probably due to some stomach issues I have been dealing with, which the doctors have not figured out yet. The anxiety gets so bad that sometimes I vomit a lot and often times I have a difficult time catching my breath. I started taking anxiety meds and they seem to be working pretty well, but not always.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hakeem Butler interview, St. Louis Battlehawks

I was flipping through the radio last night and there was some promotion with the St Louis sports teams and they were viewing Hakeem Butler. It sounded like a version of a Matt Campbell interview. He had a lot of the catch phrases, "be the best version of yourself," etc. He kept mentioning Coach Becht, and how he demands and makes sure you are prepared. I just looked at the roster and there are a lot of Cyclones on it, Mike Rose, Chase Allen, Willie Harvey, and Chase Allen. Might be a team it would be fun to go watch.

Friday OT - Only Happy When It Rains

I saw some meme the other day about someone from another state cowering inside under a bed during a tornado and Iowans running at it with a camera.

What is your storm personality? During a big storm a few years ago, I was at work, and another friend and I just stood in the vestibule and watched. If it was going to kill us, it wouldn’t really matter if I was there or downstairs where there was still a bunch of glass.

Do you hunker down with radios and water bottles? Do you storm chase with a camera? Do you have multiple TVs on different storm channels like it is March Madness?
