Catching up with videos from before and after the game.

I found it very interesting that Rick Barnes talked so much about the importance of an AD who understands the changes in the game. It was hard to tell exactly what he meant, but he certainly said all the "right things" about his appreciation of the role of football for an athletic department.

It was also interesting to hear him talk about how "I love practice . . . I could have practices 4 hours a day 7 days a week." His proficiency with practices was on display with his team's performance on Friday.

Agree w/ what Barnes said/is saying about how college sports (specifically BB for him) has changed now due to NIL, and how football is the essential element. Also, how important it is to have an adminsitration and AD that supports him, his team, and all the other teams (in addition to football). He strongly feels that any administration and AD needs to be supportive of all the teams or it won't work. He feels he has this at TN.

So, good for TN... As far as Iowa State, I think we are in a different situation due to money. I don't think we are; we are. We currently do not have enough money to go around (all the sports, teams, NIL, etc.) while remaining competitive, at least in the near future, unless something changes.

So, for some fans, instead of overly complaining that we lost again in the sweet 16 again, or that so and so needs to be fired, etc., we should strongly remember that we are currently playing "above our weight limit". We are overachieving because we have good coaches, not bad. We also have very good players, but we are also limited due to the financial budget, NIL, etc.

I think we should be thankful to the players and coaches that we got this far! Hopefully we will get farther in the future! We all want that. We also are not on a level playing field, from what are being told, and we must hope for change, some relief from the current financial constraints, if we are to be competitive in the future.

We cannot simply wish that we had better players, coaches, etc., without the finacial means to back it up. The next few years will be telling.

Three main reasons UT has the resources:
1) 100,000 seat FB stadium: also higher ticket prices, donor requirements, etc.
2) Bigger TV contract payout from the SEC.
3) More well-healed alums that donate--a bunch.

Iowa State can't do much about #2 above. They sure could do a better job on #3 and on #1 our ticket prices and donor levels need to be re-examined.

I read this to mean that all ADs need to be innovative and have adaptive vision, like Yormark has, and not just be financial bean counters…

Rick Barnes is a hell of a coach. I’ve had a few, short interactions with him, back when he was at Texas, and he always felt like a really good dude, too.

Remember when Texas forced him out so they could hire Shaka, and they've basically been worse than Tennessee every season since? What a terrible decision.

I’d forgot about that but…..I’ve spent time on the Tennessee board. If he loses to Michigan the usual suspects will want him fired. Fans and their obsession is what keeps driving the money and the constant firing in sports.
