Offer me a more miserable sports fan existence than this, I feel like I'm the embodiment of the Cooler. I'm a 4th generation Cubs fan, have been since I was old enough to play/understand baseball in the early 70s. I learned football soon after and have always been Bears-first there. And despite going to high school in Cedar Rapids, smack within peak-Hawkeye freak-land, I went to ISU in 1982 and have been a dedicated Cyclone in all the years since. A younger sister, brother-in-law, niece, 2 nephews, and a nephew-in-law followed! And as a fan, what do I have to show for it? 1 Super Bowl win, 1 World Series win, 1 wrestling natty. Nothing else in a half-century. But must be 50 nut punches at this point in exchange. And Iowa in the Elite Eight? Really??

Well you could be a Vikings fan and it would be a little worse?? :)

Sad to see the season end in the Sweet 16 again but great on the team to make it.

I remember going to Kemper in 86 and thinking for certain it would be Iowa State against Kansas in the Elite 8. That one always hurt more for some reason…even than the freaking UCLA game in 97.

I’m a Minnesota sports fan to go with the clones and have never experienced a championship during my life since I was born after the Twins World Series

The uniquely aggravating thing about Minnesota sports is how often they get to the playoffs and do absolutely nothing. I was technically alive for the World Series, but it was way past my bedtime.

And if Illinois doesn't frigging destroy Iowa tomorrow, I'm jumping off a building in terms of sports. Too much pain.

I usually don't watch many games after the Cyclones lose in the tourney, but I might become the biggest Illini fan on the planet tomorrow.

Iowa State and all Minnesota pro sports. Minnesota/Minneapolis has the longest title drought of cities with at least 3 of the 4 main professional sports.

Being an Iowa State and MN pro sports fan is just pain constantly.

Iowa State Cyclones (never will bes?)
Minnesota Wild (never will bes?)
St. Louis Cardinals (has beens)
Dallas Cowboys (has beens)

Chicago & ISU (my father) and Minnesota & ISU (sister/bro in law) are diabolical for mental health, I'm sure.

Is that true about MN pro sports title drought?

Last title was the Twins in ‘91. All 4 major sports represented, the teams are in the playoffs about 50% of the time, and haven’t even been back to a championship final by sheer dumb luck. So if you like having walls to keep beating against, the Minnesota/ISU combo is the one you’re looking for.

Exactly. No one can just outright say Minnesota sports SUCKS, because they have winning (record wise) teams quite often, they just suck in playoff time. I'm a Wild fan and I swear to God this season has looked so promising, but I know it's gonna end in yet ANOTHER first round playoff exit.
It’s the hope that kills ya
Or makes you feel ALIVE!?!? No, yeah, the hope definitely is what kills ya inside as a fan
I'm a Cleveland fan and Iowa State fan. I'm a masochist clearly
See above. I wonder if that "lack of hope" with Cleveland Browns makes it somewhat easier or not? And is it ALL Cleveland? Cuz the Indians/Guardians (yuck, sorry not a fan of that name) at least made a WS recently...and LeBron brought the Cavs a NBA finals!
Being a clone fan sucks honestly
It sure feels that way right now, but there are far worse options out there believe it or not.

And remember: "We're not Cyclones because it's easy, we're Cyclones because it's awesome."

I wouldn't trade this fanbase for any other. EVER. We care. So many fanbases don't show up or care at all OR they only show up when they are winning. No one can EVER call Cyclone Nation fairweather.
