Sage Rosenfels Interview

I thought this Sage Rosenfels interview was worth sharing. Some good old Cyclone stuff in the interview with name drops like JJ Moses, Ben Bruns, Jeff George, AJ Feeley, Brett Favre, Nick Saban. Sage was never my favorite QB while at ISU but there is no doubt that he and Seneca were the most successful NFL QBs to come out of ISU.

Leech & Anderson bumped to 4*

Per ESPN. I will admit I don't use ESPN as my main Recruiting Source. But this may help calm down the Sky is falling fans who thought this was a horrible Greg McD type of Class. The 2019 Class has some Ballers and this kind of proves it.

Friday OT #2 - Give Us De-Funct

Thanks so much to @cyclones500 for this great topic! I'm just stealing his description verbatim, as it is perfect!

Inspired by recent discussions of Taco Time closing and a reference in Campustown Question thread regarding Do-Biz. What are some defunct restaurants, nightclubs or retail stores you remember fondly from your days at Iowa State, but no longer exist? For those of us who aren’t able to trek back to ISU frequently, what are some establishments you connect most to your college days, whether they still exist or not?

Total Wireless

Anybody have experience with Total Wireless? We currently have US Cellular but our plan is up and we need to get new phones. One of my coworkers has used Total Wireless and highly recommends it. I did some price comparisons among Verizon, US Cellular, and Total Wireless and even if we purchase brand new unlocked phones through the Apple store we would be money ahead going with Total Wireless over 24 months.

Just wondering if anyone on here has experience (good or bad) with Total Wireless. I live in Ankeny FWIW.

Thanks!

Testing a home for mildew/mold

My wife is annoyingly sensitive to sound and smells. And she is beside herself that there is a smell to our home. That is not noticeable to anybody but her for the most part.

There are a couple of factors I think. The air conditioning coil gives off an odor when the A/C turns on. But we can't find anybody willing to clean it. If I can't get to the bottom of this I will be forced to replace the unit. The house is only 10 years old.

We also took in a little bit of flood water in the biblical flood of June 30th. We replaced any carpet pad that was wet, had the carpet disinfected and cleaned. I drilled 1 inch holes behind the baseboard between each stud cavity. It had a fan on it for a week, also sprayed with disinfectant, then filled with spray-in foam insulation and sealed back up.

But if our home gets over 40% humidity it starts to smell.

Has anybody else have this issue and have you done something to remediate? Who did you use? Any other ideas?

OU CB Recruit

i have a friend who is a Sooner fan who has been moaning about OU’s need for tall corners since the end of the season. You know, despite the fact that Oklahoma signs 4 and 5 star corners all the time.

Well, he got his wish. I guess Dontae Manning counts as “tall”, but this guy is 6’3”. But y’know what? As far as I’m concerned, Oklahoma can sign cornerbacks who only run a 4.59 40 all day long!

RECRUITING INSIDER: What I know about Iowa State’s top targets

There are SO MANY moving parts right now that I wanted to get everything into one spot for all of you. I’ve been working the phones this morning attempting to get a good feel on Iowa State’s spring period. Not much new here but perhaps some insight that provides more information for you all.

Here’s what I know:

Clarence Nadolny, the 6-foot-3 guard out of Paris, is officially visiting Iowa State this weekend. It’s been well publicized that it’s a three program race with Iowa State, Texas Tech and West Virginia being the leaders.

I honestly don’t have a great feel here. I think the fact that Prohm got in so early really helps but it’s difficult to ignore what Texas Tech did in the postseason. Perhaps Chris Beard being such a big name now will actually help in the sense that nobody really knows how long he will be in Lubbock?

Sahvir Wheeler, a highly-rated point guard out of Houston Christian recently de-committed from Texas A&M following the firing of Billy Kennedy.

I’m hearing he will be on campus either the 22nd-24th of the 23rd-25th. The date, at this point, is tentative.

A lot of moving parts here, as you would expect for at top 100 kid in mid-April … a former A&M assistant coach from the staff he committed to is at Georgia, where I believe he will also visit. Iowa State has to be helped by the fact that Billy Kennedy and Steve Prohm are longtime allies.

Then, of course, there is Caleb Grill. He will be on campus officially the 29th-30th. My gut tells me that Iowa State and Kansas State are the leaders but TJ Otzelberger and UNLV is an interesting outlier. There’s a great relationship with Otz, who Grill committed to at SDSU, but will the young man and his family be comfortable going to Vegas? After all, we heard that Grill left SDSU because he wanted the opportunity to play closer to home? Stay tuned. Creighton seems to be on the outside looking in.

One more: Troy transfer Javan Johnson will be in Ames May 1-3.

Also: I’m hearing that Iowa State is in the mix with a number of graduate transfers as well but there are a lot of timing issues as far as visits, etc. to still work out. I hope to have more names for you by the end of the week.

Things we need

After watching last nights games. We are missing some defensive schemes. I have no doubt our guys can play defense. I am wondering if it's Prohms scheme. Tech and VA both locked everyone down. They both had good shot blockers also. Hoping Conditt can become that guy.

Also, they have knock down three point shooters at Virginia that was the key to winning it. We have some decent three point shooters but need a Tyrus Mcgee or Matt Thomas. Just a guy that when it goes up. You are pretty sure it's going in the basket. Love Guy and Mooney. They can take it to the hoop a little bit, However, mostly they are known for just knocking down the big shots. The good part is we already have Conditt that might be able to fill the shot blocking roll now that he has a year under his belt.

I would like to see us add Grill. I think Grill can be kind of a knock down three point shooter and someone who can handle the ball. What do you all think we need to compete the next few years?

2018 Taxes

So I spent a whole hour of time last night beginning my 2018 federal tax return. Having received my wife and I's W2s I was kind of excited as I considered the prospects of a better tax result for our family in 2018. The increased standard deduction (we were close to the new standard amount with itemization in 2017) and rate decreases are cool but the doing away of the person exemptions sucks. Basically from what I can tell so far, my tax situation improves none, and may even be worse than prior years. That is strange to me because I have heard a lot about the good the tax law changes will bring. Still a lot of detail for me to wade through though so hopefully my initial high level view is off.

Disclaimer: I chose off topic to keep this about 2018 tax return filing and how it goes for others but I am well aware this teters on the edge of a political topic.
